Money for Housing Study

Saturday, October 6, 2012 @ 4:19 AM
Prince George, B.C.- The Community Development Institute at the University of Northern B.C. has been given a grant of $50 thousand dollars from the Provincial Government.
The money will allow the Institute to continue its research on how to assist communities in diversifying their economies and  improving housing stability.
Rural and small communities that are resource-based run the risk of falling victim to a boom and bust cycles which, on the upswing can create a high demand for housing, and on the down swing plunging housing prices.

There are also pressures created through the age of existing homes and the desire of seniors to stay in their homes.

The Community Development Institute will provide the B.C. government with information on topics such as economic and social development, workforce needs and trends effecting northern communities.  Access to comprehensive  and current data will also provide valuable insight into northern housing markets.

oh where are we getting this from? hahaha

fifty grand to _study_ housing in Prince George? It’s going to be snowing in Prince in a couple weeks, you got some money to throw our way for snow removal? Just looks like a nice pay off for someone. Wow that Cristy Clarke sure needs P.G. to be on her side. Twice you’ve been to P.G. and not one peep about the price gouging were getting here on the gas. I guess you needn’t worry about things like that when equipped with a tax payer visa and chauffeur. Definitely election time the purse stings are bursting open… Gotta love them Liberals, 10 years and their taking the shirt off your backs and in 6 months they want to give it all back, must want something….;]

“fifty grand to _study_ housing in Prince George”

They are not studying housing in Prince George. UNBC’s main campus in in PG. UNBC’s territory goes from Alberta to the West Coast, from Quesnel to the Yukon border.

The territory has many of the kinds of communities which will be studied. As it says in the article, those will be: “Rural and small communities that are resource-based”

So, Fort Nelson, Tumbler Ridge, Mackenzie, Chetwynd, Houston, Burns Lake, Fort St. James, Endako, to name a few.

Take almost anyone of those and the cycle of job opportunities has bone from boom to bust with greater amplitude than in large communities such as PG.

Don’t they already have a similar study stuck in a drawer somewhere?

Why can we not put that 50 grand into the GRAND sceme of housing? Would it not be better utilized into a project house or putting food on the (out of house) tables of those less fortunate? Where do you draw the line with all this useless spending on “reserch panels”? These people are only in it for the money to tell us what we already know!!
