Yes, people being poisoned is hilarious.

It’s actually a very witty comic, given that right wing governments are typically very supportive of de-regulation and the belief that industry can and will effectively regulate themselves.
I suppose when you downsize government departments that are there to ensure that this type of stuff doesn’t happen, one opens themselves up to these types of satire.

Perhaps we need a beef registry?

LOL, I suspect we already have one given that they were able to track the tainted beef back to that specific plant ;)
Much like the issues with the gun registry though, that “audit trail” didn’t stop the problem from occurring in the first place. For that, you actually need “boots on the ground” doing plant inspections to make sure that the plants comply with existing requirements. Or in the case of illegal guns, that would be agents at the border and cops on the street cracking down on the illegal guns that are being imported into the country.
Different problem, but the parallels are actually incredibly similar. Not enough resources to do the job up front and we get to deal with the fallout when things go wrong.

But hey, at least we got to spend 20M celebrating the War of 1812!

Oh and in a move that nobody wanted or even cared about, they also spent 60K on signs to rename the “Ottawa River Parkway” to the “Sir John A Macdonald Parkway”.
Given that the road runs right beside the Ottawa River, I thought that the former was perfect.
