Council Starts Meeting with Thank You to City Manager
Prince George, B.C. – This is Derek Bates’ last Council meeting for the City of Prince George, after 24 years of service to the community, including 18 years at the Regional District and 6 as Manager for the City of Prince George.
Mayor Green publicly thanked Bates for his years of service and his assistance in helping her make the transition from her previous role as Councillor to that of Mayor.
Councilor Albert Koehler says he appreciated Bates’ knowledge and willingness to share that knowledge . That sentiment was echoed by Councillors Krause and Skakun who also thanked him for his service.
Councillor Dave Wilbur said when he started as Councillor in 2008, he was proud of having been part of the team that was under the guidance of Derek Bates. Councillor Garth Frizzell sounded off a list of events and accomplishments and issues which have faced the City during Bates’s tenure, "I’m glad to have known you."
"You have just been an incredible source for not only those who are sitting around this table" said Mayor Green.
Bates responded to the kind words in saying he thanked all for their kind words and said he was fortunate to have worked with great staff and three councils.

Hmmm. And not one of the bunch said a thank you to the over-taxed, under-represented taxpayers of this city who have been paying all their bloated salaries and perks for these years.
None of them would be there thanking each other were it not for Joe-taxpayer.
Best wishes to Bates and his family. Getting out at the right time…wise.
If everyone loves everyone, then why is he leaving.????
Personally I think the citizens of PG have thanked Mr. Bates each month with the nice fat pay cheques he’s been receiving.
Maybe he should be thanking us!
If everyone says he’s got an overpaid cushy job, why are they having a hard time finding a replacement?
I think they have found their replacement. Seems to me that Soltis will cover the job for 6 Months, and by that time she will own it.
Perhaps that was the plan all along.
