Prince George, B.C.- Government Licensed Professionals who are members of the Professional Employees Association, are rallying this hour at two sites in Prince George.
The sites are the constituency offices of MLA Pat Bell, and MLA Shirley Bond.
The members say they are taking this action because the provincial government has downsized the number of professionals in the public service. According to PEA, there are 26% fewer professionals in the public service now compared to ten years ago.
The members represent engineers, foresters, agrologists, geoscientists, mines inspectors and psychologists.

And that’s a problem? The less people sucking at the taxpayer’s teat the better.
With just that stat it’s impossible to know if it’s a problem or not. One would need to know how many people are required to effectively perform the mandate of the specific department.
Mind you, I suppose you could always de-scope the mandate of the said department and then make the argument that fewer professionals are then required. It worked out pretty well in the XL Foods situation didn’t it?
The way to resolve the issues is to have the opportunity to meet with your MLA in his or her office and your MLA listens to your concern and follow up the matter. It is his/her job, to represent the average joe and jane.
When your MLAs don’t show up in pre-election public debates and after election fail to even meet with the people, then
– we see lone voices coming out in public and raise their concerns,
– later we see more voices coming out
– and later organized voices demonstrating and going on strikes in public.
“Houston, we have a problem” in PG.
Striking professional employees? As opposed to Striking amateur employees?
Professional, as in educated. Those listed in the article typically have a master’s degree or better. Axman, why is it that you think that all those who work for government are parasites? Have you never been to school (Hmm, maybe a possibility), been treated by a nurse, gotten married (I’ll resist comment), earned a driver’s lisence, or benefitted in any way from the efforts of some government employee?
Sheeeeesh, leave this great country if you think anyone outside of the private sector is a millstone around your terrifically productive neck.
“Axman, why is it that you think that all those who work for government are parasites?”
I didn’t use the word “parasite” nor do I think “all” those who work for government are.
Obviously the government needs employees; the problem we’re facing now is that there are too many of them doing too little. Granted, they’re a lot more efficient then they were a decade or so ago but they’re still an over-bloated bureaucracy. A large civil service is not sustainable.
BTW, you spelled “license” incorrectly. If you’re going to attempt insults you might want to get a spell checker. :) Just saying…
