Terrace Notes Spike in Break Ins

Thursday, October 25, 2012 @ 3:54 AM
Terrace, B.C. – Terrace RCMP are warning the public after a recent spike in residential break and enters.

Police say they’ve been called to a break-in every day since Saturday, October 20th.

“Often break and enters will happen in clusters like this because a criminal moves into town or a person(s) goes active with criminal behavior for various reasons. Thieves are ,on the most part, opportunist. Simple security measures like locking doors and closing windows go a long way” says Cst. Andrea Barrett, general duty Terrace Detachment.

RCMP say there are a number of things to be watchful for in your neighbourhood:

1. Someone going from door to door ringing doorbells or looking in windows.
2. Someone hanging around a home you know to be empty.
3. Someone you do not recognize carrying items out of a residence or shed.
4. Someone hanging around the neighborhood for no apparent reason.
5. Unfamiliar vehicle parked at the mailboxes, but they are not getting their mail.
6. Unfamiliar vehicle parked on the street that appears to be out of place or just not normal.
Investigators say it’s always a good idea to get to know your neighbours and keep track of what’s happening in the area where you live.

Any suspicious activity should be reported to the RCMP.
