Recruitment Trips Showing Positive Reaction

Tuesday, October 30, 2012 @ 3:55 AM
Prince George, B.C. – Initiatives Prince George says its recent recruitment trips to Ireland and Ontario are showing some results.

The recent trips had IPG take part in career fairs with hopes of attracting skilled labour and professionals to fill the positions needed by local firms.

The companies presented their position on why their firm is a good place to work, and IPG supported them by marketing Prince George as a great place to live through promotion of the amenities and employment opportunities for spouses.

According to IPG, the feedback has been very positive as they have fielded “multiple inquiries from potential residents” from both locations in the past few weeks.

IPG also reports its website has had 179 visits from Ireland and 314 visits from Ontario. IPG says further analysis of those visits indicate “the visitors from both locations are highly engaged, measured by above-average visit times and page views.”

Prince George employers have indicated they could grow if they were able to find people with the right skills. Attracting new people to Prince George will also help grow the population base.

Comments

Attracting people to Prince George will grow the population base, unless the growth is off set by those who are leaving to work in other areas of Canada.

As mentioned in another article one of the causes of the labour shortage in Prince George is that people are leaving to work in other areas.

This situation will get much worse as the Kitimat smelter project gets in full gear, plus Highway 37 projects, and maybe the LNG Plants in Kitimat and Pr Rupert.

Pr George could be in for a tough time finding qualified people.

Positive feedback, visits to websites and inquries are nice, but has anyone actually moved here as a result of IPG’s trip to Ireland?

If it was easier to get training here in P.G. we would not have a labour shortage. If you do not have a plan that pays for your education or rich relatives, and you do not want to be in debt with student loans, Its hard to get a education. Its hard to find a company thats willing to sponsor a person in a trade. It far easier to look over seas for trained people than it is to give our own a chance.

I agree bitter. There was a time when people worked for a company, were trained, and moved up the ladder. These were 20,30 year employee’s and the system worked good.

To-day companies are constantly looking for ways to get rid of your job, or to downsize, etc; so there is less stability, and less loyalty.

I have no concern what so ever for those companies who have treated their employee’s bad over the years. What goes around comes around.

Perhaps Initiatives Ireland, or Initiatives Ontario, could come to Prince George and solicit employee’s from Initiatives Prince George.

We could supply them with about eight employee’s, and then not fill their positions here. This would amount to a significant savings for Pr George.
