RCMP-Involved Shooting In PG
Prince George, BC – A Prince George RCMP officer fired at an oncoming car, at least once last night, during efforts to arrest the occupants of the vehicle…
RCMP Media Relations Officer, Corporal Craig Douglass, says the incident occurred in the VLA neighbourhood shortly after 6pm last night, while RCMP were attempting to make an arrest as part of an ongoing investigation.
"While in the process of executing the arrest on the occupants of a vehicle, police allege that the driver accelerated towards an officer," says Douglass. "As a result, a RCMP member discharged their sidearm at least once."
Corporal Douglass says no one was hurt during the shooting. The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody a short time later. The incident occurred at the corner of Strathcona Avenue and Norwood Street.
Douglass says the Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) was consulted, but will not be taking jurisdication. He says, "As a result, Prince George RCMP will be requesting another independent agency to investigate."
The last RCMP on-duty shooting occurred just last month in Prince George, when 40-year-old Greg Matters was shot by RCMP in Pineview on September 10th. The newly-created IIO did step in to investigate that case.

A suspect in a vehicle accelerated at the officer, so he shot at the car! What is their to investigate? Why should we spend money sending these guys up to confirm what we already know?
Yes, whenever the RCMP is involved there is an obvious conspiracy at play, its just up to ones imagination to determine what it is during said event.
The RCMP have made mistakes in the past, but they still have legitimate work to do, and for the most partnI believe they do a great job of things. They are who I call when needed, and I trust they’ll do the job every time. I don’t think there is anything to investigate here, it sounds like the perp was using a vehicle as a weapon.
Hey Gofaster, next time there’s some one in your house with a ski mask on, post about it on here. Don’t call the police.
Safe to assume that if you take a run at a cop with your car…he may just shoot you.
Not a lot here to investigate?
So every time you do your job at work, you get criticized. How would you feel, eventually it becomes juat a paycheck. I am pretty sure some of the RCMP members feel the same way.
We need to stop worrying about the criminals rights. They want to hide behind this film, get rid of their invincibility shield. They don’t want to participate in our civilized world, they should not benefit from it either.
“The last RCMP on-duty shooting occurred just last month in Prince George, when 40-year-old Greg Matters was shot by RCMP in Pineview on September 10th”
Correction: when Greg Matters was shot
TO DEATH.
I have no problem with an RCMP officer shooting at some loser who is about to mow him down with a car, nor do I think that a special investigative agency should get involved in a case like that.
There are a lot of questions as yet unanswered as to why Mr. Matters was killed,
I hope the new investigative agency is truly honest and fair to all parties involved.
metalman.
what is wrong with shooting at the Car ,low live like that will run you down to, don’t spend any Money on it.
We all have choices to make, I choose to be a law abiding citizen. If for whatever reason I get pulled over by the police I choose to speak in a respectful manner (as they do to me) I choose NOT to try and ram them or their car, I choose not to swear and yell insults at them. I assume that the people that choose to ram an officer, or to hurl insults and profanities have very little respect for the law or the people they’ve hurt either by robbing them or assaulting them or selling drugs to their children.Funny how many people whine and cry about the police and how poorly they do their job…WHAT IS THE FIRST NUMBER YOU CALL WHEN YOU’RE THE ONE VICTIMIZED???? There are bad apples in every box (and in every profession), but the vast majority of the police force do a great job..too bad the vast majority of the general public didn’t spend more time standing up and doing something about all the thugs instead of whining at the police when they try to! For the record I have NO connection to the force…friend or otherwise..just sayin
Thunderhead, well said!
Reverend…
I, too, totally agree with Echoes’ comments. Perhaps it’s time for us all to start to stand up for the police and their efforts to maintain law and order. I certainly wouldn’t want their job!
Well put, echoes, and I agree with all of what you said!
metalman.
Im sure the police wish every member of society was like Echos. The police could concentrate on real criminals then.
Investigation IS needed to see why the police officer is not a better shot, or was he jumping out of the oncoming POS & had to hurry his shot?
only one shot??….Shoulda dumped the whole clip on the thug!!….popped in number 2 and let loose with it too!!
