Canfor Re-Opens Radium Sawmill

Thursday, November 1, 2012 @ 9:44 AM

Prince George, BC – With close to $40-million dollars in upgrades and a new planer mill in place, Canfor has re-opened its operations in Radium Hot Springs.

The mill has been totally re-configured to produce high-quality lumber and, when running at full capacity in 2013, is expected to produce 240-million board feet annually and directly employ 144 people.

Company President and CEO, Don Kayne, says, "This investment shows how optimistic Canfor is about the future of our industry and this region."

Radium Mayor Dee Conklin says the re-opening is a ‘dream come true’ for the small commmunity of 800 located in the East Kootenay.

With lumber over $325 on the ticker, the dollar at par, and the massive housing devastation in the US North East… Radium could not have opened at a better time.

Mills like Polar and Isle Pierre are running extra shifts on weekends, but not yet to full blown third shifts… I suspect it won’t be long until we see a big uptick in forestry activity in this region.
