Operation Red Nose Volunteers   want to  make sure you choose the right ride during the holidays

Prince George, B.C. – It’s that time of the year again, when the folks at Operation Red Nose spread the word about how to get home from your Holiday revelling safe, and sound.

The bottom line is, you can choose how you want to get home from a party, Operation Red Nose, a bus ride, a cab ride, in the back of the police van, or in a hearse.

“Party-goers during the holiday season have a number of options available to get home safely during the holiday season,” said Andrea Johnson, Operation Red Nose spokesperson. “We just want them to know that they can choose Operation Red Nose.”

Operation Red Nose is a free, confidential designated driving service organized by the rotary Club of Prince George Nechako in partnership with the RCMP and ICBC.   This service gets the partyer, and their vehicle, back home safely.

The first night of service begins Friday, Nov. 30 and continues nine nights, Dec. 1, 7, 8, 14, 15, 21, 22 and New Year’s Eve.

Right now, there is a need for  volunteers “You must be over the age of 19, have a valid drivers license and pass a criminal background check” says Johnson.

“We need about 300 volunteers this year to help us deal with the demand for rides,” Johnson said. “So far our call for volunteers has been great, with 116 volunteers already. It’s easy to apply, volunteers can go online to our website, www.ornpg.ca and fill out an application form. They just print that off and drop it off at the Community Policing office on 5th and Brunswick.”

Volunteers can be designated drivers, navigators and operate phones out of Operation Red Nose headquarters. On average, about 15 teams of three will be on call each night of service, working from 8 p.m. – 3 a.m.

This will be the 15th season that Operation Red Nose has been offered in P.G..

In 2011, 247 volunteers provided 1,047 safe rides home in Prince George. In 2010, 300 volunteers provided a record 1,123 rides home.
