Prince George, B.C. –The B.C. Transportation Board received about 160 submissions on Greyhound’s proposal to reduce service on numerous routes in B.C.
The company says it needs to cut back on service to stop the financial bleeding as it says it has lost $14 million dollars in the fiscal year which ended March 31st, 2012. The company says the reduced service on 18 routes could achieve a savings of $6.75 million.
The B.C. Transportation Board is hoping to reach a decision within 60-90 days of the official publication of the Greyhound application. That would mean the earliest date for a decision would be December 10th and the latest target date would be January 10th.
Board Executive Director, Jan Brooke, says the process calls for the Board Chair to assign the matter to a panel, the panel will be given a full report. The panel may make a decision, may ask for more information, or may call for the matter to be sent to a public meeting.
Local governments, including Prince George and the Regional District of Fraser Fort George, have written letters of opposition to the service cuts. Other submissions came from individuals, businesses, Greyhound employees and their Union.

I can understand the concerns of their emplyees, but if you look at Greyhounds submission, I’m surprised they didn’t start this process years ago. The mayor runs a business yet she would oppose Greyhound trying to save some bucks? And I wonder how many of the opponents have actually taken a round trip to Fort St. James on the ‘hound.
