Prince George, B.C. – Six community groups in Prince George are busy working on projects that will help spice up life in the area this winter.
The groups are splitting a total of 8-thousand-dollars which comes in the form of seed money from EnhancePG through its Community Enhancement Grant program. The grants help neighbourhoods, community groups, businesses and sporting organizations take a community project idea and get it off the ground. The groups applying for the funds have to at least match what they are applying for, although the matching amounts can be in the form of cash, volunteer labour or in-kind contributions. The Grants are offered twice yearly, in spring and fall.
This fall grants go to the Northern Edge Snowboard Club, Prince George Freestyle Club, Spruce City Skating Club, Beaverly West Leisure Society, Blackburn Community Association and the Central BC Railway and Forestry Museum.
Cheryl Livingstone-Leman, Recreation Co-ordinator with the City of Prince George, says between twelve and seventeen applications for the grants are typically received by the city for each of the spring and fall dispersals. She says the number of applications this fall was down, but that is likely due to the fact the application deadline was moved forward to October from the usual November closing.
