Cariboo Cougars on Weekend Road Trip

Saturday, November 10, 2012 @ 5:13 AM
Prince George, B.C. — The Cariboo Cougars look to start a new win streak heading into their bye week as they host the Thompson Blazers Saturday and Sunday in McBride.

It’ll be a different home weekend for the Cats as they temporarily move their home base out of Prince George and into another community within the team’s massive Northern region. Hosted by McBride Minor Hockey, the weekend will also see Cougars head coach Trevor Sprague and Blazers bench boss Tyler Forsythe take part in clinics with local coaches and help with several practices.

"It’s an exciting weekend both for us and for the whole community of McBride," said Sprague. "We might play our home games in Prince George but we are truly a Northern team with players from Williams Lake all the way to Terrace, Fort St. John, and Whitehorse. It’s a great opportunity to play in front of our fans in another part of our home."

The Cougars enter the weekend coming off a massive 8-0 statement win over the Rockets in Kelowna last Sunday. With an 11-3 record, the Cats are just one point back of the Vancouver NW Giants for first in the league and need a pair of wins this weekend to keep pace going into the break.

The Blazers currently sit in last place in the BCMML with a 1-11 record, their lone win coming against the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds last month. The Cougars have scored more goals than any other team in the league with 73 through 14 games for a team differential of a plus 36. The Blazers have struggled in the goal scoring department with just 25 having let in nearly twice that many.  Last season the Cougars went 4-0 against the Blazers outscoring them by a combined 25-7.

Puckdrop on Saturday is set for 7:30pm at the Robson Valley Recreation Centre with Sunday’s rematch at 2:30pm.
