Timberwolves Make Cancer Prevention A Slam Dunk

Thursday, November 15, 2012 @ 3:54 AM
Prince George, B.C.- There will be more than basketball on the courts at the Northern Sport Centre this weekend.

The UNBC Timberwolves and Canadian Cancer Society are teaming up this weekend to spread the word on cancer prevention and help fans put together a Game Plan to reduce their risk of cancer.

“Research has shown that you can substantially reduce your cancer risk by committing to living well and making healthy choices, and by being aware of changes in your body and following screening guidelines” said Jane Allen, Project Manager for the Men’s and Women’s Health initiative with the Canadian Cancer Society.  “Making your own Game Plan will help make a difference to your cancer risk,  so start by making one change. Think of one thing you can do to live well, be aware of your body or get involved in reducing risks for everyone.”

During Saturday’s game, Canadian Cancer Society Volunteers will also be running a “Best Halfway Stache” contest by encouraging Timberwolves fans to come and show their mid-way progress on their “Movember” moustaches.

Women’s game starts at 6:00pm and the men’s game starts at 8:00pm at the Northern Sports Centre.
