Ministry Continues To Hunt Bear That Killed Donkey

Prince George, B.C. – The remains of a donkey that was killed and partially eaten by a black bear last weekend have been removed from the yard on Buckingham Rd.
Doug Forsdick, Inspector for the Omineca Region, for the Ministry of The Environment, says the trap for the bear remains at the residence.
"We don’t know if it will return to the baited trap, but we are definitely working on it". Forsdick says the bear may have simply denned up. "We haven’t received many bear complaints this year and the cold snap that we had recently resulted in most of the bears denning up for the winter." But he adds, "There are always the exception."
If the Ministry is able to catch the bear they feel relocation to a rural area is not likely.

I am really sorry about those people’s donkey. How sad. We do, however, have to keep in mind that we live in an area surrounded by wildlife, some dangerous, some not.
I love my cats dearly and I recognize that when I let them outside, them might not ever come back. I feel nature is good for them and their right. It can be a dangerous world and sometimes we just have to accept our losses.
just don’t let your kats in my garden!
Balboa, what about the birds, mice, frogs, bugs, etc. that get in your garden? What do you do about them? If you don’t want cats in your garden, put down one of the natural deterrents.
“If you don’t want cats in your garden, put down one of the natural deterrents.”
Or… you can keep your cats inside where they belong. I’ve heard the SPCA will lend out cat traps.
birds, mice, frogs, bugs do not make my garden stink from 100 metres away. Keep your cat inside.
Bornandbred, we love the birds, frogs and bugs etc. in my garden (slugs, no). Cats are an invasive species. I do have 2 natural deterents, dogs.
“Or… you can keep your cats inside where they belong.” Huh? Since when did cats “belong” inside? Control your animals period, cats or dogs.
BornandBred, I have to agree, except we should treat all wildlife as potentially dangerous no matter how benign the species may seem.

How do you propose a cat be ‘controlled’ once it leaves your yard? Keep it inside.
Shoot the bears that come into town and the donkeys will be fine. The only solution
