Thursday, November 15, 2012 @ 3:52 AM

Prince George, B.C.- Coming soon to a computer near you, Citizen Radio.

250News has learned, the Prince George Citizen is setting the stage to add as many as four radio stations to its online news site.

The additiion of radio comes as part of an exclusive agreement between Glacier Media and Digital Broadcasting.

Glacier’s Nanaimo Daily News  just launched  VING  radio,  which  offers four  digital  radio  options for readers,  and an opportunity for   Glacier to  sell advertising on those stations.

It has been confirmed the Citizen will be among the next Glacier Media holdings to make this move, and it is expected the move will be unveiled within the next four weeks.

What a waste of money. They want to sell advertising on those four radio stations? Am I reading that correctly? Who do they think is going to listen to online stations with ads?

Here’s a tip PG Citizen….

iTunes has thousands of radio stations… no ads.
CBC Music has 40 stations… no ads.
Shaw has 60 digital music stations… no ads.

You might want to re-think this expenditure.

Newspaper people, why would one think they are progressive thinking? Is there an industry suffering more from technology?

The newspaper business is dying, subscribers are down. They have to try something different.

If they had audio books that I could download to my ipod as a podcast that contained insightful news related issues and history pieces then I’d listen to it if it had ads to pay for it. But I can listen to music anywhere without all the ads.

bah ha ha ha ha ha.

Newspaper getting into radio.

That is so far from progressive they think they are ahead of the curve.

What next, telex or teletype?
Oh, I know, Morse code is making a comeback.

I heard there is a new fangled communications device resurrected from the past.
Take a blanket, make sure it is damp, briefly hold over a smokey fire, and lift off occasionally. Use a combination long and short puffs in various combinations similar to Morse Code.

I hear the navy is selling off their old signal lamps, for cheap.

Is it only music or will I be able to listen online to four day old news as well? :-D

If the Citizen would have focused for the past 25 years on what they were – a newspaper, they might still be a profitable enough to stay in business.

They copy their competitors, treat their customers disrespectfully, and have lost some great talented employees due to some stupid managerial decisions.

I cut my subscription many years ago and refuse to even contemplate starting it again.

I got rid of my subscription when I realized I had this thing called the internet.
