Missing Film Maker’s Body Found

Sunday, November 18, 2012 @ 1:27 PM
New Hazelton, B.C.- The body of missing documentary film maker, Warren Sill has been found.

The Ohio man had been missing in the Gull Creek area of New Hazelton since July. He had come to the region to shoot a documentary about Kermode bears.

His vehicle was located at the entrance of the Whiskey Creek Trail in July.

Despite the efforts of Search and Rescue Teams throughout the Province, an exhaustive search was concluded on July 20th.

The Local Search and Rescue Team (SAR) did however, continue their training and search efforts in the Gull Creek area. Yesterday, members of SAR located what appeared to be a shirt belonging to Sill near a waterfall site and a pool area that could not be accessed through the summer months due to the terrain and high water level. Since the water level subsided,  two pool areas were searched by SAR swift water teams.

Due to the low water levels at this time of year, members were able to access the area and located a body.  “We can confirm that it is Warren Andrew Sill” says Cst. Lesley Smith, North District Media Relations Officer “Our condolences go out to the Sill family and all his friends.”

That is sad, but at least his family knows now.

I wonder if any investigation is going to transpire in order to try and determine the cause of death.

Thankyou SAR teams throughout the province.
Your work is invaluable to all of us. Were it not for your hard work, determination and skill, a lot of people would not be with us today.

Great work. Thankyou. At least the family can have some closure to this sad story now.

Not to smart to go into an area that bears are known to be, especially all alone and nothing but a camera.

Thanks to the SAR team that was able to finish the job that began last July. Teams across the province were involved with this search. While it is tragic that he died, at least this can provide closure for Warren’s family and friends.

Lol uturn! I see people walking alone in PG all the time and we have bears. All alone nothing but a phone!

By all accounts, Mr. Sill was out living his life, exploring, doing things he enjoyed and he travelled across the continent to do it. Despite the fact that this situation had a tragic ending, I think it is actually something to take inspiration from. The extremely remote risk of having a bad encounter with a bear has nothing to do with this. Give everyone a break already or just stay cooped up inside your house experiencing the outdoors on the National Geographic channel.

Good job to the SAR team and I hope this helps provide closure to Mr. Sill’s family.

Interesting that people assume he had an encounter with a bear. Could have been as simple as a slip an hitting his head on a rock.

Either way until an official cause of death all of us are speculating.

uturn – Ive seen bears in my yard, I guess I better not go home tonight!

I think NMG nailed it
