RCMP Explain Highway Closure

Sunday, November 18, 2012 @ 2:58 PM

Prince George, BC – Highway 16 East was closed briefly this afternoon, when RCMP became concerned about an individual on the Yellowhead Bridge…

There were initial concerns the man was distraught, and the highway was closed in both directions across the bridge for a short time to allow officers to make contact with the man.

Fortunately, it was soon determined all was well and the man carried on with his trek.  The route was quickly re-opened to motorists.

Wow! There was so much going on it looked like half the force was there not to mention the fire truck, search and rescue and ambulance. What a waste of the tax payers money. I’m happy that there was no tragedy, but I think that the person that is responsible for causing this should be paying the bill for not thinking about his actions first.

Why do we spend so much money protecting stupid people?

It isn’t clear that the person on the bridge was doing anything he shouldn’t have been. For all we know, he was walking across or enjoying the view and the RCMP became concerned that he was suicidal. That would not be his fault, and he should not have to pay anything.

So please explaing to me how this was wast of taxpayers money. I can hardly wait, snap to it.

The situation couldn’t have been too serious or they wouldn’t have let the guy continue on his trek. I’m sure they would have taken him either into custody or for some help if it was anything serious. Therefore it was a waste of however many man-hours. (Tax payers dollars) In no way am I saying that he should have to pay for it though.

Unbelievable !

Suicide is still the sincerest form of self- criticism. And always will be. Just so ya know.

So you are saying after the fact it was a waste of money, very intuitive. Now what would you have said if the man jumped and no one had responded? People have jumped from that bridge. Oh by the way the responders were already on shift.

Probably a guy leaning over the railing watching the ice flowing on the river and others assuming he will jump. An ass to assume!!!!

Probably called in by the same lady who called 911 about her tow truck driver’s “gun” that was in fact a portable air compressor.

Let’s face it, seeing someone actually walk across a bridge in PG is unique and people just do not know how to react to it.

He was under the bridge climbing around, not on it. The RCMP and rescue were searching under the bridge platform.

Thanks Sinister at least someone can read, but one cannot explain to someone who cannot Sea!

So having all those resources is a waste of tax payers money? Aren’t we paying for them no matter what? Police are on duty fire hall is ready to go , chalk it up as a successful training exercise.

Just think, if security/safety services were privatized, we would not be paying for such calls, the individuals in distress would be paying. ;-)

So, today if someone has a house fire, they need insurance to rebuild or pay out of their own pocket; but the insurance does not pay for firemen and others coming to try to put the fire out or reduce damages.

If it were privatized, we would save taxes, but would have to consider getting insurance to pay for fire mitigation services which would cover our liability when our fire damages the neighbour’s property as well as our payment for services rendered. ;-)

FREE Enterprise ……

I think we would save a ton of money …. NOT!!!

Well, not exactly all that free then, is it?

“He was under the bridge climbing around, not on it”

But the report says “RCMP became concerned about an individual on the Yellowhead Bridge…”

On is on … and below is below, and under is under ….

There is nothing in the report that indicated the person was climbing on bridge trusses ….

I’m glad we have police services that would help a potentially suicidal or just drunk and stupid — or maybe just stupid — person from killing themselves by hanging off a bridge or jumping. It’s good to know they respond well and with the seriousness good people expect in such situations. That is someone’s son out there, and he deserves preservation and saving.

The point is he didn’t need saving.

Now I need savings, any donations? Hi to all my good friends on opinion250. The beef is good, the beer is cheap, and gas was 1.019 where I filled up today!!!! Have a great week everyone…….
