CNC Preps for Strike

Monday, November 19, 2012 @ 11:01 AM
Prince George, B.C. The College of New Caledonia is preparing itself for strike action.

Members of CUPE Local 4951, the operations staff at CNC, have served strike notice, and intend to have picket lines up at all campuses tomorrow, November 20th.  The strike is set to start at 6 a.m. Tuesday and last until 11 p.m., Wednesday.

“All college courses, programs and services at all 6 CNC campuses, with the exception of essential services such as power plants, will be suspended all day and night Tuesday and Wednesday,” said Randall Heidt, CNC Director of Communications and Development. “This includes Continuing Education courses, gym rentals and day care services.”

The college will be extending its fee payment deadline to Friday Nov. 23 at 4 pm because of the job action.

“We are hopeful that college operations will return to normal on Thursday, Nov. 22, but we encourage everyone to keep an eye on the college’s website for updates,” said Heidt.
The Employment Services Centre at CNC’s Mackenzie campus will remain open to clients. Please call 250-997-1740 if you have any questions on the employment centre.
