Berry Hit with 14 Years For Violent Attacks

Tuesday, November 20, 2012 @ 5:00 PM
Prince George, B.C. –29 year old Chad Douglas Berry  has been sentenced to 14 years on 9 counts stemming from a violent crime spree in March of 2010.

It was March of 2010 when   Berry broke into the basement suite of an Oak Street home. Two young women shared the apartment. One was in bed, and Berry climbed into her bed before proceeding to smash her computer and cell phone. When the room mate came into the room to see what was going on, Berry destroyed her cell phone , then, in the dark proceeded to assault  the two. It wasn’t until the two young women escaped from their attacker and the  darkness that they realized they had each been stabbed several times.
Berry then went to another home, where he broke in and forced the resident  to drive him to Cluculz Lake where he tried to steal a camper.

This was not the first time Berry had been in this kind of scenario. In 2005 he was arrested for breaking into a home, beating  and robbing the senior citizen who lived there. He also threatened a young woman with a shotgun after she failed to share his vision of their relationship.

Berry was to be tried by  Jury, but, on the day the trial was to begin,  elected to plead  guilty.   In handing down sentence  for the 9 counts, including,   two of aggravated assault, one of confinement, and 2 of uttering threats, B.C. Supreme Court Justice Glen Parrett said the key aggravating factor in this case is that the two women were attacked in what should have been the safety of their home. He said the young women were not just physically injured, but emotionally scarred as they could not feel safe in the sanctity of their home.

Berry sat stone faced as the sentence was delivered.

He has already spent 2 years, 8 months and 8 days in custody awaiting trial, time which will be considered as “time served” leaving him with, at most, a little less than 11 years and 4 months left to serve.

there is a good chance that after 11 years he wont be any different and continue to be a threat on society but it nice that he wont be around for 11 years.

truly a problem person. insert a GPS monitor in him. track him. He dont want to be a part of civilized world, treat him like a carreer criminal.

Another reason in favour of citizens being able to possess handguns.

How many of these kind of crimes would be stopped if the perpetrators knew there was a good possibility those inside may have a gun for their defence?

I wonder if this guy suffers from a mental illness?
metalman.

But you can have a handgun jetstream you just have jump through the hoops. The problem is guys like this have bigger guns than you and I can legally buy so nothing gained there. Besides by the time you unlock the safe, take off the trigger lock, unlock the ammo and load it the guy will have done the damage and fled. It’s a lot quicker to just grab a bat!

Most likely metalman but not enough to keep him out of jail!

Is being a psychopath a mental illness?

Out in seven or earlier. Betcha.

Figger 3 1/2 if we’re lucky.

Just to remind Jetstream, the USA allows handguns far more liberally than we do and have a per capita murder rate many times what ours is. No solution.

As for mental illness, can you picture a person in their right mind doing this to people? Psychopathy is a mental illness, more technically known as Antisocial Personality Disorder. However, it does not fit the definition of insanity, which is a legal term and not a psychological term. Insanity means that the afflicted individual is incapable of knowing right from wrong and psychopaths know what they’re doing is wrong when they hurt others; they simply don’t care.

Psychopaths are also completely incapable of rehabilitation and “treatment” that teaches empathy and respect only allows them to be better at faking these traits, thus making them better psychopaths. Psychopaths also come in two flavours: the smart, high-functioning ones and the dull but vicious kind, which seems to describe Berry. For the sake of society, he should be declared a dangerous offender and locked away for life.

Krusty – stats are not always what they seem to be.
You don’t hear the many reports of robberies and other attacks foiled because the would-be victim had a weapon.
I still maintain, the best defence is to be properly protected and when attacked use it instead of waiting for someone to respond to 911. You will be dead by that time.

Krusty-you cannot compare Canada to the USA, there are completely different demographics.

The real problem here is that they kept releasing him to commit more violent crimes. If the first person he’d assaulted had shot him he would have been far less likely to reoffend.

Metal illness and having a personality disorder aren’t the same thing. This mofo is a Psychopath. Lock him up and throw away the key!!! Evil SOB

*mental illness* not metal lol

Interesting how you folks have suddenly become statisticians and psychologists when someone challenges your simplistic nonsense. A personality diorder is a mental illness; look it up in the DSM. Canadians are not Americans, who knew? Shoot someone dead in order to teach him a lesson – yes, of course, it’s so obvious now!
Yikes!

That’s right Canadians are not Americans…..At least you’ve figured that one out. Now try this one on for size, guns don’t kill people…people kill people.

Well the two young ladies have 11 years to arm them selves, take a few self defense classes, learn how to make some one disappear with out anyone knowing or caring for that matter.
Is there a violent offender registry where we might view photos of such people should they not seek the appropriate counseling while incarcerated????

“guns don’t kill people…people kill people” . . . with guns.
