Pillars Adorn Main Library Branch

Sunday, November 25, 2012 @ 5:03 AM
Prince George, B.C. – The Prince George Public Library’s downtown, Bob Harkins branch has installed the first art project to grace the giant pillars throughout the upstairs of the building.

Images of Prince George leaders and luminaries who have been painted and transformed, taken and adapted from the Literacy Art Calendars, have been printed on giant sheets of Tyvek  and wrapped around the pillars, lending a new air to the public stacks. There’s Mayor Green looking across the space towards city hall; UNBC President Dr. Iwama smiling from the post supporting the hi-technology of the Skylab and MLA Shirley Bond, painted as a wise owl, surveying readers through Ficus foliage as they walk up the atrium stairs. 12 posters in all decorate the library in this installation called “Pillars of the Community”.

The Literacy Art Calendars are a fundraiser between the Public Library and the Community Arts Council, with all proceeds from the $25 calendars being split to support both institutions. Calendars are on sale at both branches of the library, Studio 2880, the UNBC Bookstore and the library in the University Hospital of Northern BC.

Mayor Green, a pillar of our community??? Wow, they must have been desperate for someone’s, anyone’s face! They should have used Bob Harkins image!

This too shall pass.

I agree with Give more, Bob Harkins wuld be
appropriate; I don’t know to many others though! Harold Moffat might be one.

Harold Moffat would likely turn over in his grave, I don’t think he was a big supporter of libraries.
