Former City Councillor Bob Martin Passes Away

Tuesday, November 27, 2012 @ 1:05 PM

Prince George, B.C. – Former  Prince Geoerge City Councillor  Bob Martin has died.

Martin had been in failing health over the past few months and passed away at the Schaffer  care residence last night.  He was 79.

Former Council colleague Brian Brownridge says   "While we had different political beliefs, I could always count on Bob to support the cause.  I had a great deal of respect for him."

Bob’s wife Anne, (also a former City Councillor),  passed away on November 10th,   they had been married 52 years.  "Both Bob and Anne will be sorely missed" says Brownridge "because they were one hell of a team."

Former Mayor Dan Rogers says it is so sad to hear of Bob’s passing, so soon after  saying goodbye to Anne.  "I never served on Council with Bob" says Rogers, "but his reputation as an honest, straight talking community leader still resonated through Council chambers long after he left public office.  He always cared deeply about Prince George and never shied away from giving his opinion on issues but was also willing to step forward to help make things better. That dedication continued throughout his life including up to his most recent efforts as a member of the Board with Progress Prince George."

Funeral arrangements  have not yet been made public.

I guess it goes to show you that if you live your life well, good things come to you even at the end. If I could write my life story ahead of time, it would read that I was a good guy who had a strong wife who worked as hard as I did. I’d live a long happy life together with her as a strong team. We would both raise wonderful kids and spend our sunset years together. She would pass away and I would follow her a few short weeks later to be joined again for eternity.

My condolences to the Martin famiy at this difficult time. The city of Prince George is a better place because of the Martins.

Well said PGguy. Ditto.

Our family has many great memories of both Anne and Bob and have admired their energy and dedication to others.
A big loss to their families and our community.

Well said PG Guy, Ditto, Ditto.

Very nicely worded PGGuy. We all have an opportunity to make sure our friends say the same types of things about us.

They were both wonderful examples of dedicated and committed citizens of our community. We will miss them.
