Job Action at CNC Won’t Impact Students

Wednesday, November 28, 2012 @ 3:58 AM
Prince George, B.C. – It is classes as usual at the main campus of the College of New Caledonia in Prince George, but there will be a reduction  in some services.

CUPE local 4951   has withdrawn service from the CNC mail room, print room , shipping and receiving and the Centre for Student Success at the Prince George campus today through Friday of this week.

“We are not expecting any disruption to classes this week, although some services will not be available,” said Randall Heidt, CNC Director of Communications and Development.  “Job action can take many forms, such as the withdrawal of services, so this is not unusual or unexpected.”

Tutoring and other faculty-supported services in the Centre for Student Success (CSS) will continue with limited disruption.  It is only the administrative function that will not be available to students in the CSS (i.e. booking new appointments, exam invigilation or testing) during those three days.  All existing appointments will be rebooked for students.

The two side in the labour dispute are expected to be back at the bargaining table over the weekend, and there are hopes a new agreement can be hammered out.

CUPE local 4951 has been without a contract for two years.
