CounterAttack Season Is Here

Prince George, B.C. – The Drinking and Driving Counter Attack program is underway, as the Christmas Holiday season arrives, and the celebrations carry on through to January 1st.
The Counter Attack program is now into its 35th year. Back in 1976, the year before CounterAttack road checks started, more than 300 people died in impaired related crashes every year in B.C. There has been a great deal of progress made in public education and enforcement, but there are still, on average, 113 people who lose their lives each year in B.C. because of impaired driving. Of that number, the stats show that on average, 25 of those deaths will happen in the north central region of the province.
“We want everyone to enjoy the holidays with their family and friends, so make sure you plan ahead for a safe ride home,” said John Dickinson, ICBC’s director of road safety. “Share the responsibility of being the designated driver this holiday season. If it’s your turn, be true to your commitment – your friends and family are counting on it.”
There are options. You can have a designated driver, call a cab, take transit or call on Operation Red Nose, which will ensure you and your vehicle will get home safely.
Operation Red Nose will be operating it’s first night of the 2012 Christmas season tonight in Prince George . There will be 8 teams on the road tonight, and ten teams on the road tomorrow. "Watch for our Red Nose Volunteers" says Operation Red Nose Spokesperson Andrea Johnson " we will be stopping in at the pubs and bars, making sure people know we are available." Operation Red Nose is available from 9 tonight until 3.a.m . Last year, 247 volunteers in Prince George provided more than 1000 safe rides home.
If you would like to call Operation Red Nose to get a ride, the number is 962-RIDE (7433)

You are an idiot.
What’s next? Capital punishment for jaywalking?
Life in jail with no parole for driving with a suspended license? I tend to agree with not-so-random.
BCRacer; your statements make us think you are an idiot. Maybe you should do an about turn and say “it’s not the rest of the world—it’s me”. Check out your mirror for thr definition.
C’mon folks, try to keep on point.Story’s about options. We know that a lot of people are out there drinking. Now, let’s all volunteer to drive for Operation Red Nose, not waste time bashing each other.
I agree the fines are way too low and the Justice system needs to jail repeat offenders for longer periods of time.
Hope everyone has a safe holiday season, really hope there’s no police knocking on my door to tell me I’ve lost someone, again.
