Prince George, BC –  As a final flourish to the Centennial celebrations that have marked the Huble Homestead season, staff are bringing back the Pioneer Christmas event, which has been on hiatus for a few years, as a final hoorah today before shuttering up the site until next spring.

Huble Program Manager, Nicole Krizmanich, says, "It’s a nice, low-key way to ease into the holiday season and get into the Christmas spirit."

Visitors to the historic site in Salmon Valley today will be able to make old-fashioned Christmas ornaments, help decorate a tree, and dip their own wax candle – something, Krizmanich says, is always a popular activity.

"Santa will be making an appearance at about noon and he’ll be bringing Mrs. Claus," Krizmanich adds.  "So if there’s anybody who wants to bring their letter to Santa, they can do just that and we’ll have materials out there, so people can write their own letters."

Today’s activities run from 10am until 3pm in the Salmon Valley Post Office, which is in the upper parking lot because there is already a lot of snow on blanketing the homestead.

But Krizmanich says people are welcome to bring their snowshoes out if they’d like to trek into the site and see it in its winter glory.  (photo at right courtesy of Bev Henry)

In addition, there will be a few pairs of shoes on-hand that visitors will be able to sign out.

As always, admission to the Pioneer Christmas is by donation.  There will also be chili and hot drinks available.  Today’s event is cash only, as there will not be a debit machine.

Huble Homestead is located 40-kilometres north of Prince George on Highway 97, turn right onto Mitchell Road.
