No Decision from Lakeland Yet
Prince George, B.C.- While there is good news in Burns Lake with word Hampton Affiliates will rebuild the Babine mill in that community, there is no decision yet on what will happen with the Lakeland Mill in Prince George.
Lakeland Mills Ltd. has extended congratulations to Hampton Affiliates on its decision to rebuild, "The explosion and fire that destroyed the Babine mill last January was a tragedy that had devastating impacts on the Burns Lake region," said Greg Stewart, president of Sinclar Group Forest Products, of which Lakeland Mills is a division. "We are extremely happy for the Burns Lake First Nations and the people of Burns Lake. Today’s decision by Hampton Affiliates will allow the community to heal and move forward with their lives."
Lakeland Mills has not made a decision on whether it will rebuild its own sawmill, which was destroyed in an April 23, 2012 explosion and fire.
"As we have said before, the conditions are favourable to support a positive decision about whether we will be able to rebuild," said Stewart. "That said, our timeline and our operating environment are different than Hampton’s. We will make every effort to make a decision as soon as possible."
Lakeland Mills has no further comment about the rebuild decision at this time.

Waiting for adequate govt handouts before committing to rebuilding are we Sinclair Group?
^ that’s it exactly.
Why not?….what do you think the Americans got?
I hope they don’t drag out their decision like they did with Winton Global.Do the right thing.
@fuceneh – I don’t know if you know, but the high percentage of US forests are privately owned so the government really can’t give the timber away down there when they don’t own it.
@lakelandorphan – I hope they do the right thing as well. In the small chance they do rebuild, I hope for the workers that the high level management isn’t the same as it was for the past 5 years.
@winterfell-I don`t know if you know that Hampton IS an American company.
Sorry fuceneh, I mistook what you were saying for something else.
The workers at Lakeland received the money about a month ago. How much depended on if they were hurt or not.
I personall think it will be rebuilt! Be a much smaller mill but super high tech
I wonder if we will be resposible for feeding the community burner? What am I saying—of course we will pay for it. Citizen susidized wood burning — thanks to Dan and Council for that! I see taxes going up to pay for that as well even though I warned them it would never be cost efficient. This is nothing more than an oversized boiler and who uses those useless heating systems?? Oh yeah –Prince George — the same group who force fluoride on us.
