Prince George, B.C. – Health Sciences Professionals Bargaining Association ( HSPBA) is set for strike action today and tomorrow.
Today employees who provide pharmaceutical services will reduce their service levels to essential service levels. The action will impact all Health Authroities in the Province.
Northern Health expects this action will result in some patients having to wait longer for their medications. The delays will NOT impact chemotherapy treatments as they are on the list of essential services.
Tomorrow, HSPBA employees who provide services such as radiology, mammography, sonography, MRI, Interventional studies, CT scans and Nuclear medicine services will also move to essential service levels. This action could result in some elective procedures being either delayed or possibly cancelled. Northern Health says all urgent and emergency services will be provided.
Northern Health is not yet able to say how many patients or procedures will be negatively impacted by tomorrow’s one day action. It is expected those numbers will become clearer by the end of today as patients are contacted about the status of their elective procedures.
The last contract for the HSPBA ended March 31 of this year, and while a mediator has started talks with the two sides in this contract dispute, there has been no indication the job action will be put on hold.
