FRIDAY FREE FOR ALL – Dec. 7th, 2012
Friday, December 7, 2012 @ 12:00 AM
We are inching ever closer to Christmas, as the first week of December comes to a close.
This is your chance to speak up on the issues that sparked a fire with you over the past week. You pick the topic, but obey the three simple rules:
Keep it clean
Keep it legal

I find it fascinating that people the closer to Xmas we get the more harried and panicky they become. I was officially done Xmas shopping last week of November and I bought 3 presents each for 9 people. Now I know not everyone can buy early or afford to shop till closer to Xmas but for many it is a stressful time.
On dec.1 I was in a line and the typical question was asked of me “so done all your Christmas shopping?” To which I replied that I had. The woman in question who had asked me the question the. Proceeded to tell me I was a F’ing Ahole because I had done all my shopping. She surprised many with her comments that is for sure.
It amazes me that a lot of people literally lose their heads this time of year they know it comes every year but yet many still are not prepared for it.
I dont do christmas anymore…not because I dislike it but because of just that,,,,people lose their minds and their pocket book for one day. My kids are grown, and I did all that fancy stuff,ie..tree, gifts, dinner and entertaining when they were young.Yes, those were fun times but I remember being one of those hurried people and now I opt to work it, bank the cash and go somewhere warm for a few weeks in the middle of winter. A much more stressless December if I must say so.
We have too much “stuff” at home.
It is fun to figure out what to select to give to someone else for Xmas.
We just have to make sure we do not give something to someone who we got the gift from.
QQ
They sell table top trees now.
I saw some trees in the states recently … $12 for a table top tree …. $24 for a 6 to 7 foot high tree
Saw exactly the same trees at one of the local grocery stors a few days ago …. $24 and $34 … complete with a US flag on the base to identify the origin.
So we cannot cultivate our own trees here?
Don’t forget that this is the day that still has lived on in infamy. How can I forget, eh?
Gus, we like to take our trees to facilities for value added processing, the Yanks can ship all the raw logs they want north!
Sunday Dec 7 1941 Japan attacked the good ole US of A by bombing Pearl Harbour! Many young lives were lost.
Pearl Harbour was both a tragedy and a blessing. Without it the Americans may have taken much longer to join the war effort. Otherwise all of Europe could be in Russian hands.
Bless all the soldiers who faught for freedom.
Yes, bless all the soldiers that fought for freedom. And curse all those politicians, of every Party, at every level of government, who are negating that freedom more and more with each passing year.
For the first time in the city’s history, Kelowna taxpayers will be asked to fork over more than $100M to maintain city services.
Figures contained in Kelowna’s 2013 provisional budget show a total tax demand of $103.1M, an increase of $3.6M over the 2012 taxation demand of $99.5M.
That’s an average of about $880 for every man, woman and child in Kelowna.
The increase will mean an average across the board tax hike of 2.54 per cent.
That means the owner of an average $454,000 home will play an additional $41.77 in municipal taxes in 2013.
In releasing the provisional budget, City Manager, Ron Mattiussi, stated the goal of the 2013 financial plan was to maintain existing core services while providing for the maintenance requirements of existing infrastructure.
“We need to be prepared for the future while maintaining a solid financial base in the present,” Mattiussi says.
“Revenue growth continues to increase at a slower rate than expenditures and this trend is anticipated for the near future. Making adjustments to the services that are provided, or the way they are provided, is a step towards adapting to a new normal in municipal budgets.”
Mattiussi says the tax demand for next year is based on a number of current factors along with the impacts of decisions made during the 2012 budget process
JERRY SEINFELD just announced for CN Centre. May 2nd. Pretty good month for concert announcements in this City – still lots to love about living in PG despite McLeans and others making us seem like a mess. Perhaps it’s time we started standing up for our fine City.
2 more weeks till the Mayans come home…
Congratulations to all the Prince George residents who stepped up to the plate and helped out the family who lost everything in a fire last week.
“The day that shall live in infamy”.
Say, isn’t that quote from the war following
“The war to end all wars”?
Will we ever learn? And how about committing forty billion dollars for a weapons system that serves no defensive needs of Canada?
“2 more weeks till the Mayans come home…”
Hey, does anyone know when the next end of the world is supposed to be after this one? I’m trying to plan my year out.
“And how about committing forty billion dollars for a weapons system that serves no defensive needs of Canada?”
Yet!
Are we missing something or is it just me.
A family of 4 young able bodied men sitting at home “stay at home father” needs assistance of this magnitude amazes me. I’m not a scrouge but I’m sure there is less fortunate people that could use this help. Rant over.
Less then 6 months to go till April first. On that day we the people of BC are supposed to get our tax system back that we voted for. I am proud to announce that I did ALL my christmas shopping in Alberta and also did a trip down to USA so I have NOT payed any HST to them here. I spent a few hundred on gifts and things and am very proud of NOT paying HST. I even got to go to a restaurant without being screwed by HST. Only HST they will get this month from me will be on my internet bill. And after next April that is going to go back to no HST, just what we the people voted for in the last election. I do everything possible to NOT pay HST for anything. Was a very worth while vacation Now I’m sitting here going over my recipts. I do not see HST on any one of them. How’s that fur ya? LOL LOL LOL.
Soon the HST will be EXTINGUISHED along with every single lying LIE-beral campbell lackey. What a great day it will be come May 2013. Good bye snooki.
http://www.timescolonist.com/health/Impaired+driver+killed+motorcyclist+gets+jail+probation/7663963/story.html
Our justice system is a joke. I feel sorry for all the motorcyclists out there; apparently our lives are worthless.
Mattyc – you do realize that 12% HST is the same as 5% plus 7% right? You have saved NOTHING. Although thanks for the fuel taxes to drive all over the country in your “savings”
PS – claim any of your underground contract pay that you brag about to revenue Canada yet?
Dearth: being told that for having all your Shopping done must be a First, I don’t know what I would have done ?
Did anybody catch Bruce Strachanâs column in the citizen the other day praising our lovely mayor. Basically he says the mayor has done a great job in year one because she is âshaking things upâ. Funny how he uses our poor roads, continual threats of cutting service in snow removal, a 4% hike in our property tax and their political junket to China as evidence of accomplishments in her first year. Huh?
At least he didnât try to weave in the big pay raise Mayor & Council voted themselves earlier this year as another sign of great leadership. I think he should just go enjoy his public pension and stop the rants in the paper before he goes even further to demonstrate how out of touch he is with the average working stiff.
I find xmas to be nothing but consumerism, people buying junk they don’t need but want because they think they should keep up with the Jones’s next door. I hate consumerism and I resolve to spend less at xmas time. If everyone did that and put their extra savings towards their bills our record debt to income ratio would go down and there would be a lot more confidence in the Canadian economy.
I encourage everyone to check out this link to a blog called Mr. Money Mustache. It’s about a lifestyle change.
http://www.mrmoneymustache.com
Can we talk about someone who is working their behind off for PG? Glen Mickelson at CN Center is really doing a great job. The whole team over there seems to really be on the ball.Glen, Andy, Jessie…a good, productive team.
Hey its astonishing that someone has remembered Pearl Harbor. Its not what realley forced the americans into world War II in Europe it was a fear of loosing thier place in the world market. They wanted to be number one and they were not doing to well in the Pacific where the Japanees had hammered them.
cheers

I’m not so sure that most of Europe would have been conquered by the Soviet Union if the US had not entered the war. More likely, the Nazis would have succeeded in invading Great Britain and would have remained in western Europe. Without the opening of the second front, for which US participation was crucial, the Soviet Union might well not have succeeded in repelling the Axis, much less have conquered Western Europe.
mattyc, you brag of avoiding B.C. and Canadian taxation; are you also proud to not support your fellow citizens in their business endeavours?
Are you proud to give your business to a foreign country rather than support the merchants of your own country?
Based on your stated pride, I have to assume that you are too proud to accept medical treatment in Canada, because it is funded by Canadian taxpayers. Perhaps you avoid using roads and bridges in B.C. as well, since tax dollars put them there.
Think about it.
metalman.
The nazi goal was world domination and with out the US industrial might Russia most likely would not have survived.
“fear of loosing their place in the world market” Why do you think the Japanese were expanding? What do you think of the millions the Japanese had killed in their expansion?
Yup beat up the US while enjoying the western lifestyle. Yes the US has some warts but what regime would you rather live under? Hypocrite.
Yes metalman you are so right… Mattyc you are proud of this? Pleas move to Alberta or the US. You and your lack of support for the local business community will not be missed. Start packing.
Those of you blowing the US military horn for what they did in the second world war should learn a little about what the Canadians and British did during that war.
Without either of the two, we’d all be goose stepping today.
Residential property taxes? Why don’t all homes get taxed the same? The people that look after their homes or upgrade pay more property taxes. Why should they carry so much of the residential property tax load? Do they get more services? I think all residential property owners should be paying the same amount.
Mattyc does the exact some post every week. It’s surprising he still gets people to respond.
I might be wrong but did Winston Chirchill altready know about the invasion of Pearl Harbour, but didn’t warn the US in order to get them engaged in the war effort.
good point Johnny – what was I thinking lol
Have a good weekend all.
It’s because mattyc is like a case of crabs or something…you want to ignore it but sometimes you just have to respond to the annoying little buggers, now where did I put that calamine?
With the comming Provincial election we don’t hear much about the NDP form the multi media services. I suspect they are too buisy cosying up to the Lieberals but you can get the streight goods from Alex G. Tsakumis a rebel with a clause on Google. Much like Miesner he is a good source for the streight goods.
axman, I heard that news about the impaired driver killing a motorcyclist and getting some stupidly short sentence because she had cleaned up her act. Couldn’t believe it. Someone’s life reduced to nothing. That sets such a bad precedent for our Courts; I sure hope the Crown is appealing that one. I believe in rehabilitation but also in paying for something you’ve done.
Psst, I read Bruce Strachan’s column with digust too. Not only did he tout Ms. Green but he said something about supporting Enbridge too. Time to put that old **** out to pasture. Why does the paper allow such drivel to be printed? I am not going to respond to the paper on his column, as I first thought I would, because his column was so condescending.
Hello Mr. Strachan, I saw pictures of you on FB that showed you at Ms. Green’s celebration party and at the opening of her office so I know exactly what your opinions are going to be. Please don’t take up space in the newspaper with that excrement.
If it was not for Pearl Harbor, the United States would have (eventually)entered the war in the Pacific with a fleet of 30 – 40 year old battleships, along with 30 – 40 year old naval strategies based around those vessels. The Japanese carrier task forces would have destroyed them at sea, resulting in much greater loss of American seamen. By bombing Pearl Harbour, the Japanese showed the US the future of naval warfare – aircraft carriers and submarines. While the US did commission the Iowa Class battle wagons (still the most stylish design of battleship ever), they also ramped up their production of carriers and subs. The submarine force fought the Battle of the Pacific almost single-handedly for the first 18 months of the war after Pearl Harbor.
“Alex G. Tsakumis”
I second that!
Those that keep crying and trying to convince us all how bad one party is should read Alex’s site for the truth about their heros!
Hummer – absolutely agree with your comment – Most people forget why we celebrate Christmas. It should be a holiday for the family, where we have time to spend together, but not to be stressed out for we think we have to do shopping, shopping, shopping, just consumerism.
No point to waste money on all the junk they are trying to sell nowadays.
I was reading the link you posted – and yes, that is my lifestyle.
No mortage payments, no car loan, no wasteful living – I enjoy every day of my life.
Wish more people would wake up and start changing their life styles!!!
born: “Psst, I read Bruce Strachan’s column with digust too. Not only did he tout Ms. Green but he said something about supporting Enbridge too.”
Yes, Heaven forbid someone have a different opinion. I don’t always agree with Strachan’s column, especially the one touting Mayor Green, but for the most part he’s ok.
Police are once again “surprised” that we are the most dangerous city in the country for the third year in a row. Maybe if the police made their presence known around town it wouldn’t be. It would take just one police officer to drive up the Hart and back down across the John Hart bridge once a day to see just how many people blatantly ignore speed limits, road rules, and red lights. You can not simply go on the green at the intersection coming off John Hart bridge. To do so could mean death. At least three cars at any given time of day blow the red light. People up and down the Hart highway tailgate so close with their lights on bright at night that it should be considered road rage and unsafe driving. Yes, I see people in the right lane doing it, yes sometimes I see them do it to people in the left, but then the car that is being tailgated turns left so maybe the impatient person should back off? Shouldn’t safer streets start with cleaning up the tailgating, red light blowing, speeding idiots who “drive” on those streets in this town? Just where the heck are the police enforcing road rules? I have not seen a police patrol the Hart Highway for so long, I forget what they look like. It’s like driving in a war zone.
To all those nice drivers that stop at the cross walks for those of us who love a good daily walk a Very Merry Christmas and for the block heads that refuse to stop for us have a black Peter Christmas.
Cheers
Well our road is getting plowed again even if there is no snow,I am waiting to see when our snow budget is going to be used up, I bet by the next snowfall.
MattyC sounds like a real contribution to society. Probably the first in line for government benefits when he needs them too. Just how much money are you going to save when they go back to two taxes MattyC??
And which bunch of honest do gooders are going to replace the liberals MattyC?? Do you remember the last time NDP had a go at things??
It’s the old saying…Knowing enough to be dangerous. Sounds like you are spending lots of time and money, avoiding being a tax paying citizen. You should look into the income tax act too Matty, I think we were only paying that until the war was over.Have fun with that MattyC.
Next time people like MattyC look at their sales receipt from buying goods in Washington State or most any other states, they need to look at the sales tax … State as well as county/City … anywhere in the 8 to 9% range in Washington.
seamutt you appear to know very little about World Warm II and you relish in judging others but your really quite ignorant when it comes to world War II.
the British, Canadians and the Polish also had an armoured Corp and there were other Nationbs that landes at Normandy. They were on their way to Berlin before the Americans could break out of their bridge head.
Eisenhauer was for ever trying to take control of the forces in Europe but Montgomery fought him off. He did convince Montgomery to hold up the show so the American could be part of the the forces occupying Berlin. Had that not happened the British and Canadians would of taken Berlin.
The only fighting army the Americans had were the Marines and they were in the Pacific.
So dont feed me this crap that American were a great asset. they spent their days drinking pop and eating Hershey Bars.
Cheers
Russia also was barely in the fight, figuratively. They held back fully two thirds of their equipment and reserves and didn’t declare it so they could get so much more help from the British, Canadians and US.
Only after the war was this discovered.
They wanted to use us all up before they walked in and took over.
“So dont feed me this crap that American were a great asset. they spent their days drinking pop and eating Hershey Bars.”
Theres a statement that will get a guy beat up in any bar in America…
Don’t forget the NDP produced at least 2 balanced budgets in BC …something the Lieberals haven’t been able to match. :-)
$1.29 for diesel in this town….every time I fill up my dislike of liberal policy rears its head, it looks like a cash grabbing carbon tax! Go ahead cut corporate taxes from 15% to 10% and run up huge deficits putting our future into hock!!
Jim: “Don’t forget the NDP produced at least 2 balanced budgets in BC …something the Lieberals haven’t been able to match.”
I’m sure you just forgot about Glen Clark’s fudge-it budget scandal.
Yea and the raids on the premiers office and home and fast cats etc etc
I seem to remember Gordon Campbell referendum on bringing BCs first nations into line…..something about treaties? And the the Basi & Virk BC rail scandal….and the hated HST.
BTW- If the liberals hadn’t cut corporate taxes they wouldn’t have such a hard time balancing the budget. But I guess that’s the price you pay when your in the corporations back pocket?
Intercepter,Well I would never share this information with an American. The Amercans were a sad case. Most of them had been drafted and they were not great soldiers
We were with them in Korea and they were shellaced time after tims. the Marines were good soldiers as they were volenteers.
Thats my rant for today.
Cheers
Guess it really makes no difference who is in power, they all lie and try to cling to that power. Really do wish we could have leaders that were honest and could actually lead.
JohnnyBelt, what’s that you said about other people’s opinions? Double standard. I don’t like Bruce Strachan’s column. You do. There you go.
Every Friday I go into this site hoping I can post something positive but can’t seem to come up with much. I love PG and enjoy my life here. Life is really good here in Canada and I try to remember that and teach it to my children. Don’t know why the positive stuff just can’t seem to come out of my head. Maybe that can be my New Year’s resolution…positive commenting.
Oo, oo, I’ve got one. It’s snowing. I love snow. I love that we here in PG can drive for a few minutes and go skiing at Otway. Now’s there a great place! Same for Tabor and Purden mountains. Pretty lucky to live here.
gus, you must have some study somewhere that shows why people, when given the oportunity to speak, choose to mention something that bothers them first. Must be a human trait of some sort.
PS – I didnt meant that as a shot against you retired 02 (in case it came across that way). I just know how passionate they are about thier military.
Thank you for your service :)
“JohnnyBelt, what’s that you said about other people’s opinions? Double standard. I don’t like Bruce Strachan’s column. You do. There you go.”
Don’t be so sensitive. I didn’t suggest that you be put out to pasture for your views like you did with Strachan.
Johnny please get over yourself, someone should have taught you to respect your elders.
MattyC, you know how he was able to go to the states to buy his “goods”? He cashed his welfare cheque!
Yup, great guy, claims to work under the table doing renovations, doesnt claim any income, most likely receives financial support from the same government he claims to loathe.
The liberals could learn a thing or two from MattyC about being dishonest.
calculator eighty some murdered in Toronto and not one murder in PG last year. Have you ever driven in or around Toronto, PG is a piece of cake.
Retired you like lowering yourself to name calling, school yard stuff. If it wasen’t for American industrial might the outcome would have been quite different and a lot of the raw resourses used came out of Canada. I was talking about american contribution not operations and I have a sizeable library covering WW2. Did you know the Canadian airborne were the first to meet up with the Russians.
I see Todd Whitecombe still gets confused about carbon and C02.
What the hell are some drivers trying to pull today running red lights or just plain pulling out in front of you expecting you slam on your brakes or change lanes for their conveniance. DAMN!
To the Seniors out there that are having trouble trying to think of what to get their partner for Christmas, this is to let you know, there is a Seniors Cruise planed to Alaska Sept. 6th. The Cruise leaves Vancouver and gets back to Vancouver Sept 13th. This is in the planing stages ,and its the first time we have done anything like this out of Prince George. If you would like more info you can contact any of the Senior Centers or Thomas Cook Travel ,they are working with this with us.
Just read on the CBC news site that Harper OK’ed the sale of Nexen to the Chinese. Can there be any doubt remaining that the pipeline to Kitimat will go through now?
BTW, one person commented under the article that 20 billion dollars worth of oil sands represents about 1% of the value of the oil that exists there. Anyone have even the slightest idea if this is correct?

Do you know mattyc? I would be very carefully what you are posting here. Think first before you are typing.
I actually know mattcy and he does not get any welfare, he also pays taxes here, income tax and also property taxes for his houses.
If he likes to entertain you all here on Friday about the HSt., so that is ok. There are many many more, that do not like the HSt. and they voted, to get rid of it.
At least, someone speaks out about it, that he does not like the HSt. like the majority. If you like the HSt., good for you, enjoy every day you have it!
He never said, you are a Welfare Bum, so please be careful what you are saying. Unless you know more than I do.
Friday Free For All should be an entertainment for everybody, but some do not see it like that. They are just grumpy, miserable and think, they have the right to call other people names, if somebody writes something they do not agree with.
I also do not like HSt., whatever, I also voted yes to get rid of it.
I like shops where I do not have to pay HSt. and still support the community like Habbitat, St. Vincent, Salvation Army etc., so whenever I need something I have to go to PG for, I first check those shops and usually I find what I need. Another thing is Kijijiji and Craigs list.
Anyways, enjoy the Christmas time and don’t be miserable and call people names you do not even know.
Cheers

I also do not think, that the Lieberals need any lesson from mattyc, he ain’t qualified for that and doesn’t have a ticket for that.
But Albus, you are just like them. Telling lies just like Gordy. Are you a member of the Lieberals? Do you support the HST?
bornandbred wrote: âgus, you must have some study somewhere that shows why people, when given the oportunity to speak, choose to mention something that bothers them first. Must be a human trait of some sort.â
This came up first in my query and thought it reflected the reality as I perceive it much better than several of the more researched reports I have found in the past. I particularly like it because I am getting more and more into âparticipatoryâ research â observations and suggestions of those people who are actually experiencing the behaviours being studied.

I found a statement made by one of the posters on the above linked blog to be very perceptive
âHell, seen from an attention whore framework (never thought I’d say that), you could say that ‘internet extremism’ is actually less genuine and more contrived than real world political correctness.â
So, Mattyc is actually this whimp of a fellow, a person looked up to in his church, goes out of his way to be helpful to anyone who asks, etc.
He is simply exhausted from that and needs to unwind through his on line alter ego …. ;-)
Make that two online alter egos…
Ora et Labora……
I think, we all did enough. It’s time to be happy and enjoy life – feel sad for all these miserable characters with a special ego……….or they think they are
The outcome of both World Wars would likely have been different if the USA had not supplied much of the armaments to the Allied powers to fight them.
Both Canada and Britain had to resort to conscription in both World Wars. There were not enough volunteers coming into the military to meet the manpower needed to do all that needed doing.
The level of training given to US draftees was poor in comparison to that of the British Commonwealth forces, and most of their troops’ discipline was inferior. Still is, even though they now have a volunteer army.
In terms of equipment, and a complete lack of the penny pinching attitude towards it prevalent throughout the command structure of the British Commonwealth forces, the US forces were far and away ahead. They built their military equipment to be used, not conserved. And not to be regarded as more precious than the soldiers charged with its use. They realised that in war, “money is no object” ~ so long as the actual capacity to ‘produce’ always is, or can be made, to exceed the demand to ‘consume’. The same holds true in peacetime, but is less readily apparent. Unfortunately.
The US Marine Corps resorted to the draft to help fill its ranks during the Korean War. Canadian infantry received as good a training, possibly better.
It was Hitler who declared war on the USA after Pearl Harbour, before the USA declared war on Germany. Had he not, the USA might have done what the Russians did. Be at war against only one Axis power at a time. Since Russia did not declare war against Japan until a week before WW II was all over.
Physically, every war is fully paid for as it is fought. Or it couldn’t be fought. But afterwards, in the case of Britain especially, there was supposed to be an enormous debt owing. Much of it to the USA. It appears the US Congress didn’t interpret Churchill’s plea to America before the US got fully involved, “GIVE us the tools and we’ll finish the job”, quite the way he was asking.
Oh, and by the way, to those who think our spending money on new military hardware is a complete waste, if , in 1938, when Neville Chamberlain came back from Munich waving an agreement he’d negotiated with Hitler, and said there’d be, “Peace in our time”, Great Britain had instead gone to war against Germany right then, there would have been scarcely ONE fully equipped RAF squadron to face the Luftwaffe over the sky of England.
Credit Bubbles are at their core about an unsustainable expansion of Credit – the inflation of financial claims spurred by market misperceptions and associated mispricing. During the Bubble, the rapid expansion of Credit is self-reinforcing specifically because financial profligacy will ensure that most âfundamentalsâ (i.e. corporate profits, GDP, stock prices, etc.) appear supportive. And, importantly, major Credit Bubbles are invariably created through heightened government intervention in âmoney,â the markets and throughout the real economy. The perception that Treasury, Congress and the Fed would never tolerate a housing bust was the critical fallacy that ensured a historic boom and bust cycle. In somewhat different dynamics than those of the mortgage finance Bubble period, extraordinary fiscal and monetary measures have convinced the marketplace that the historic confluence of massive issuance of (non-productive government) debt and record high debt security prices is both sensible and sustainable. Once again, market price distortions are driven by the perception of all-powerful intervention, in this case that the Federal Reserve and foreign central banks will indefinitely accumulate this debt at record high prices.

For people who work downtown and buy thier lunch each day, ie; $15.00. The HST would be $1.80 x 5 =$9.00 x 52= $468.00 per year.
That is just the tip of the iceburg when it comes to paying HST on those items that used to be exempt. This tax cost consumers approx $1.6 billion per year in additional
taxes.
The only people who would support such a **rotten** tax would be business and corporations who stand to save money, and the Government who gets additional revenue. All the rest of us got it in the ear.
Come April 1st this tax will be gone, along with Campbell, Hansen, Falcon, and others of thier ilk. In addition, because of thier inability to be honest, and be a Government for all the people rather than the chosen few, the Liberal Government will also be gone.
Good riddance to bad rubbish.
I could care less who replaces them. In fact a herd of baboons and monkeys would be a pleasant change. At least baboons and monkeys would be happy with a few banana’s. The Liberals and thier friends want all the banana’s, plus the tree’s, plus the farm, plus free labour, and someone to pour thier drinks.
Have a nice day.
suzir2000,
so what your saying is that MattyC is not only a hypocrite, but a liar as well?
His stories paint a different picture.
Palopu
did you major in creative math?
Maybe you just forgot that GST was previously charged on meals.

A liar? Please read properly. I could never read in mattyc comments, that he receives welfare, that is grown in your head – whatever the reason is.
Are you jealous, that he has a good life, does what he wants, works, pays tax, pays for all his houses property tax – but does not support this rotten HST.
So what is wrong with you and your brain?
And you never answered the questions – do you support the HST? yes or no – and are you a member of the Lie-berals.
Can’t understand why mattyc is a hypocrate in
your opinion.
You should be more than careful with your comments. Write only what you know for sure, if you are guessing, some of your comments could be actionable.
And maybe read the comment, Palapou just wrote. Or would you call him also a hypocrate, for he does not support the HST.

But the 7% PST was NOT! Nor was it charged on a whole host of other goods and services consumed by British Columbians. The HST was a tax grab by a government that financially mis-managed this Province to a degree never previously seen, even in the ‘decade of despair’ that preceded them. It’s truly unfortunate that we may have to endure the NDP again after the next election. But even they would be an improvement over this continuing Campbell/Clark crowd’s ineptitude and incompetency. How could a Party of supposed ‘businessmen’ be so utterly stupid sure beats me.
Albus Antiquus Vir.
Your right. I overlooked the GST.
So it goes like this.
Meal $15.00 x 7% = $1.05 x 5 = 5.25 x 52 =$273.00 per annum.
The point I was trying to make was that even on one small meal per day, the tax in a year is horrendus. Add in all the other previously exempt items, and you are staring $1200.00 per annum in the face.
socredible – you are so right.
How could a Party of supposed ‘businessmen’ be so utterly stupid sure beats me. —
yes, it beats me as well – it is just unbelievable.
And I would say, the majoriy of the population will agree.
suzirC, you bet, big supporter of the HST.
MattyC, hypocrite? You bet, the worst kind, and a tax cheat as well. You help him do his T4’s? You put in all that unreported income that he comes in here and brags about? Yup, a hypocrite and a cheat. And if what you say is true, then he is a liar as well.
Some clarification.
For those who think that the future of air cargo lies in Prince George.
The Boeing 787-8 Cargo Jet (Dreamliner) has a range (fully loaded) of 8,800 to 9,440 miles, or 14,200 to 15,200 km.
Air miles New York City to Beijing 6879.99
Air miles New York to Shangai 7408.36
Air Cargo flights from North America to China **NON STOP** are the future of air freight.
I suspect that in the next few years, Anchorage Alaska will start to feel the pinch.
Palopu, and you forge the proposed rollback to 10%. Now everybody will have to pay the 5% GST on everything, and 7% PST on most things, making a 10% HST pretty much a saw off.
Oh well, no sense fighting this fight again, it will be fun to see all of you whine and complain a year after the NDP get in when PST jumps to 8 or 10%, the tax base is expanded, income tax is increased and unemployment explodes. They will use the Liberals as an excuse for about 24 months while all you supporters get it up the place where the sun dont shine.
Fun days ahead!
to albus virus
I feel so sorry for you, how can somebody be so blinded.
But I am sure, mattyc will remind you every Friday, if he is not on vacation,
Soon the HST will be EXTINGUISHED along with every single lying LIE-beral campbell lackey. What a great day it will be come May 2013. Good bye snooki.
and he will enjoy it to remind you of that fact.
to : Albus Antiquus Vir
it seems, you also believe in Fairy Tales, Gordy;s Fairy Tales, just lies lies lies
Who would believe after so many lies a rollback to 10%. And they cannot even afford it, if you see the dept. They should be all arrested, if they would work in a private job, they could not do that and would be all fired. What loosers!!!
suzirC,
you continue to survive on craigslist and Sally-Ann, I will run my business and happily pay my bill at local restaurants and shop where I please.
You are entitled to feel sorry for me, I am corrupted by worldly possessions, putting my children through University and living a very comfortable life. Sucks to be me.
Albus Virus. Why would you believe that they would actually lower the rate to 10%. Even if they did, wouldnt they just put it back up once they were elected????
We all know that the Value Added Taxes in Europe and other Countries range from 18% to 25%. Anyone who thinks that the HST would have stayed at 12% in just fooling themselves.
Once the door was opened, it would be easy for the Government to throw in a small increase whenever they wanted.
I appreciate the fact that some British Columbians became aware of this *scam* and nipped it in the bud.
British Columbians are now leaders in stopping Governments from taxing and wasting money, and we intend to keep thier asses to the fire.
We are totally overtaxed, and under serviced in this Province. Most of our tax dollars are wasted on useless projects, or ill conceived ones.
I think this time around we got thier attention, and hopefully they got the message
suzirC
a link for you.
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=looser
Palopu
and you believe that the GST will be 5% and the PST will stay at 7%? You believe the tax base will not be expanded?
Really, assure me your not that naive?
suzirC
I quote you:
“Who would believe after so many lies a rollback to 10%. And they cannot even afford it, if you see the dept”
Now show us your brighter than you appear, if they cant afford the roll back to 10%, but they are going to disband HST, just how does that debt get paid?
I know, they can use craigslist more?
I don’t think the BC public is much in the mood for ANY further increases in sales taxes. And a future NDP government would bring one in at their peril. It’s about time this ‘balanced Budget’ nonsense was laid to rest. Change the method of government accounting to the same type of accounting used in every private business, where we can clearly see not just the “Liabilities” (rise in the Provincial debt), but also the “Assets” and a figure representing the “Capital” as well.
suzirC,
If there is one thing that Gordy understood, its the fact that is there is no business, there is nothing. Tax’s must get paid, in order for people to pay them they must work, if there is no business, there is no work. If nobody works, there is no revenue to cover your welfare cheques.
socred, you know as well as I do, the NDP will increase tax’s within minutes of entering office. They dont have a clue how to cut costs, they are a handout party by nature, and with the HST removal there will be a need for more revenue, and thats not factoring in the payback of the HST advances from the feds.
This province is in for a world of hurt.
albus virus
my english might no be the best, as it is not my mother tongue – but who cares, you still can figure outv what I tried to say, even if you are a looser or loser or whater,
in May you will start paying your tax, because the people voted for that.
And by the way, I love Sally-Ann and I love Craigs list, for I can find items Made in Canada without HST – and I am not forced to buy junk Made in China.
Albus Antiquus. You are operating under the assumption that all Government spending is fiscally responsible, and accountable. If only it were so.
This is one of the richest Provinces in Canada. The only reason we are broke is because of Governments who are out of control. These dudes have take us to the abyss.
Sea to Sky Highway
2010 Olympics
Transit
BC Ferries
BC Place
Port Mann Bridge
Just to name a few. Once we get fiscal responsibility there will be no need for futher taxes in the short term.
I sincerely doubt that even the Government itself, or those who profess to represent the Government have a bloody clue as to the amount of money that comes into the Government and the amount that is spent. A forensic audit would leave us all aghast.
Its much like the local Police Station. A bloody $80 Million dollar fiasco.
to albus virus
are you so excited, that you cannot read properly anymore? Why do you think I am on welfare? I worked all my life, never collected welfare, what is wrong with you? Maybe you will be soon on welfare, if you cannot pay your taxes anymore starting in May, when the HST is extinguished.
And by the way, I brought all my children already though University and they are doing just fine in Alberta.
Ironic,
You say in May I will start paying my tax, and seem to think of that as some sort of justice, while you take pride in buying without paying tax. Ahh, the MattyC school of thought, I wont pay tax, I will take, but I wont give.
Do you think about what you write?
By the way, I suspect if we compared how much money each of us have to put towards tax’s each year I would come out slightly ahead.
The debt gets paid as all government debt gets paid. By rolling it over into another debt issue. All that ‘gets paid’ is the interest on its totality.
If a National Debt were fully repaid in the manner some seem to think it could be, (and this holds true to a large degree for Provincial government debt, too), there would be NO MONEY left in the country.
Unless an equivalent amount to what had just been repaid were again ‘borrowed’.
Government debt, as it is presently constituted, is a “distributing agent” for necessary new credit entering the economy. Without which the totality of existing private business debts would be incapable of being even anywhere near their present (in)adequacy of being amortised as contracted. And banks would be unwilling to lend more, and the economy, as presently constituted financially, would collapse.
Palopu,
I hold no illusions. I believe in 2 things. Free enterprise and hard work.
I do hold one other belief, that the NDP have no clue how to govern a province.
suzirC,
when you get a few spare minutes, would you please take the time to explain to all of us how the HST works?
so far as I remember, there was no dept when Gordy took over.
It is not illegal, to buy at Habbitat or Sally-Ann, yardsales or whatever, it is a great way of recycling. A bonus is, no HST, as the original owner paid already a tax, whatever kind of tax it was.
So nothing wrong with that.
I have to manage my house hold budget and there is no dept. So why are these smart guys like Gordy and his Ilk are not able to manage the budget they have.
I learned, when I was young, you only can spend what you have. This should count for the government as well.
Governments in Action.
City of Prince George BC.
$300,000.00 annual subsidy to Northern Sports Centre
$143,000.00 annual tax exemption to the PGGCC which is a semi private society, under the societys act of BC.
$800,000.00 renovation to the PGGCC Clubhouse. Ostensibley because of the relocation of the Tennis Courts, and the Winter Games. (Was this mentioned in the original Winter Games planning??)
$100,000.00 to the Performing Arts Society to look into the feasability of a PAC in Prince George.
$1.3 Million dollars for Initiatives Prince George (yearly budget)
$6 Million for the Boundry Road cut-off
$6 Million for Citys portion to the failed airport runway expansion.
$8 Million for new Cameron St. Bridge (not needed)
$5 Million for the Community Energy System (not needed)
and on and on it goes.
Then we are told that the City must sell the Pine Valley Golf Course because they need the revenue. (They went broke?).
Why is it that those people who golf at Pine Valley, (which pays it own way) should get it in the ear???
BECAUSE. The City see’s an opportunity to move the money from the sale of Pine Valley into the Capital Projects Fund, and use it in the future for a Capital project.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. What would that project be?? A PAC perchance???
Pine Valley has to stay where it is, and continue to be used for all citizens of the City that care to use it.
The Mayor and Council had better tread lightly on this issue, as they are pushing the envelope a little to far.
Have a nice day.
SuzirC,
your memory is poor.
Palopu,
you give the mayor and council far to much credit.
Forgot to mention the great rate that the Cougars franchise gets at the CN Centre.
I suspect that they receive something in the area of $60,000.00 per year because of the reduced amount of money the City is taking per game. So in essence a subsidy to a private business.
The golfers at Pine Valley are not **connected** and thats the reason that the City will take advantage of the situation and pull this course out from under them, and sell it to **connected** commercial interests.
Hopefully we have enough fair minded Councillors to stop this madness.
The last 2 members of council who had a clue were Rogers and Zurowski. Rogers was a horrible mayor but a great councilor, Zurowski was the last candidate for mayor that had the brains to straiten out this city.
There is a reason why we no longer get quality candidates for political seats. Its a thankless job with idiots for peers.
I have no problem, to understand a Value added tax, that is what the HST means to be.
When I lived in Europe, I had my own business and had to deal with it, so no problem at all.
Now, with out a business, only a consumer, I just have to pay. If I need a haircut, I have to pay. If I want a chesseburger, I have to pay HST (I never buy one). If I visit the kids in Alberta, I do not have to pay HST. No HST on a fridge in AB, no HST on a haircut in AB.
And the sad thing is, the money goes to a government, that is not able to manage a budget.
suzirC,
2nd or 3rd time you have mentioned Alberta. Just curious, if its so great there, why are you here? You and your idol have a fascination with that province, makes one wonder why you put up with us inept BC’ers. Maybe its time you moved on to the Chinese oil sands?
Alberta is full of people from BC they have been going there in droves.
In fact Alberta is the reason that BC has a lower unemployment rate. All those people who were looking for jobs went to Alberta.
Furthermore a hell of a lot of people who still live in Prince George, MacKenzie, and Tumbler Ridge, Courtney, Nanaimo, etc; work in Alberta. If it wasnt for Alberta and the oil sands in the past few years, BC and Canada would be a basket case.
Lets give credit where credit is due.
Albus, you memory is short.
My children live and work in Alberta, nothing wrong to visit them once a while.
Would you not do the same, visiting you children, if they live in another province.
But I do not get it, who is my idol?
By the way, in Germany every province has the same tax system.
Albus, will see, how your memory is, hope you do not google.
How much dept was there when Gordy took over and how much dept will there be, when the Lieberals get voted out in May 2013?
Germany does not have provinces, they have states.
suzir,
no idea what the debt was when they came in nor when they leave, not my thing to memorize those numbers. I prefer to worry about things I can control.
Antiquus, “free enterprise” is under as much danger from the BC Liberals as it is from the NDP. And “hard work” in an age when modern technology is rapidly making human ‘drudgery’ a thing of the past, and rightly so, is simply an anachronistic call for a reversal of progress. You are right, in all likelihood, about the NDP’s inability to govern this Province well. What you, and others like you, fail to see, is that the BC Liberals cannot govern it well either.
Surely those on the philosophical ‘right’ side of the political spectrum deserve a Party that has a different POLICY from that of the NDP. Rather than one that has the exact SAME Policy, and whose only difference is the METHODS that will be imposed on us to achieve it.
This puts such supporters in the unfortunate position of continually backing a group who’s only fighting a staged retreat from the very principles they’re supposed to be upholding.
Look at the real record on taxes over the last ten years, and I think you’ll see what I mean. For a government first elected on the very attractive, and correct, promise that “Tax Cuts Work!”, the BC Liberals certainly have not practiced what they once preached. For on balance the majority of us are paying more now, for less, than what we we’re when Campbell was first elected.
Albus, you are wrong, for example, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is a province.
I am sure you remember and know how much dept was when Gordy took over. And I am sure, you know, that it is not less when they are leaving. We all can see what is going on and it is sad, that we have to pay for it, for a government unable to manage a budget.
There is not a dedicated 787 cargo plane. This still applies, less fuel shortens range but with less fuel weight an aircraft can carry more cargo. Prince George to China is shorter than New York to China so less fuel more cargo.
Palopu since when are PG and Anchorage not part of North America
suzir, the issue shouldn’t really be about the debt. EVERY BC government since we entered Confederation with Canada in 1871, on Terms of Union which extinguished our Colonial debt, has left office with a larger debt than when it came in.
WAC Bennett, our longest serving and most successful Premier, arranged the Province’s finances so the government was technically direct debt free in 1959, and remained so for the rest of his time in office, until his defeat in 1972.
But when viewed as the ‘contingent liabilities’ guaranteed by the Province, which our direct debt had been converted into, there was a growth in that debt throughout his entire time in office.
Debt itself is merely a financial tool. If the Province is in a period of economic growth it is only natural that overall debt will also grow as that growth is funded. Our problem today is that there are periods where there has been far less economic growth than the rate that government debt has continued to grow. This has happened under both the NDP, and even more so under the BC Liberals.
We cannot easily discern this with the type of bookkeeping governments currently use. Where they have a ‘Budget’ which is always supposed to be ‘balanced’. Most people are led to believe this means the government is not going further into debt. This is NOT so. For a Budget can be balanced by borrowing as well as by taxes, and is.
In a private business this would be immediately visible, because their accounting is done differently. We would be wise to change the government’s accounting methods similarly, so we can always get an accurate financial picture of what is really going on. And what our prospects for the future really hold ~ genuine economic growth to the benefit of all, or simply the ‘inflation’ of a government engaging in useless ‘make work’ hole digging.
You know what I like is all you Liberal lovers are just shaking in your boots!
LOL! LOL! LOL!
Palopu: “Lets give credit where credit is due.”
Then give it to Mother Naturewho decided to give that much oil to one province. No one in Alberta had anything to do with that!!!
