Cats Fall in Kelowna.
Saturday night in Kelowna, the Prince George Cougars fell 7-2 to the Kelowna Rockets. Kelowna scored three times each in the final two periods with Tyson Baillie leading the way with two goals and an assist. Alex Forsberg had both goals in response for Prince George.
Kelowna led 1-0 after one in what was a pretty even first 20 minutes. Both teams had trouble generating offensive chances, and at the halfway point of the period the shots were only 2-2. Each team failed on an early power play chance, but late in the frame, Myles Bell drew a holding penalty, which put Kelowna back on the man advantage.
Colton Heffley opened the scoring shortly thereafter when he banged home a pass from Carter Rigby. Goaltender Mac Engel was able to get a piece of the shot, but it found it’s way in for Heffley’s fourth of the season.
Early in the second, the Cougars were able to kill off the back-half of a Rockets power play, but surrendered a second goal a few minutes later. Zack Franko out waited the Cougars defense, and fed a pass to Ryan Olsen who was waiting at the side of the goal. Olson was able to tip the puck up and over Mac Engel for his 16th, and Kelowna led 2-0.
Tyson Baillie’s first of the game made it 3-0 when a pass from the right-wing went off two different Cougars players and right to Baillie who beat Mac Engel for his seventh.
Henrik Nyberg would add a power play marker at 15:34 of the second to make it 4-0 Rockets in the late stages of the period.
The Cougars found some offensive life on a late power play when Alex Forsberg notched his first of two goals on the night. The play started with a point shot from Joseph Carvalho that was tipped perfectly by Daulton Siwak in front. Siwak’s deflection was stopped by Cooke, but Alex Forsberg then pounced on the loose puck to score his sixth of the season.
The Cougars started the third period on the power play but it was Kelowna who capitalized. Damon Severson led Kelowna in on a three-on-two, and two passes later, Cody Fowlie was able to score off the right wing to increase Kelowna’s lead to 5-1.
Dylen McKinlay and Tyson Baillie both scored goals midway through the third, which rounded out the Rockets offense.
Alex Forsberg scored the game’s final goal in the final minute to make it a 7-2 final.
The Rockets outshot Prince George by a 33-20 margin. Kelowna went three-for-five on the power play while the Cougars went one-for-six.
The Cougars record now sits at 10-16-1-3, and they’ll look to get back in the win column on Tuesday when they welcome the Swift Current Broncos to town.

nothing against the boys that play for this team…but I am not going to spend my money watching another losing season…Maybe time to move the team…more ice for rec hockey…figure skaters etc…i feel deflated as a fan i wonder how the players feel…
we need more size and skill.our smaller players do their best, but much taller and heavier opposition intimidates and physically grinds them down. take away our wins in the first 8 games or so, and we SUCK.i expect attendance to continue to decline—-i wonder how the revenue stream is for the city?
Their only saving grace at the moment is that the Vancouver Giants are playing even worse.
The team won’t move because they have too much of a sweetheart deal with the city of PG. Where else are they going to get the team revenue topped up by taxpayers?
