Monday, December 10, 2012 @ 3:47 AM
Prince Rupert, B.C. – National Energy Board hearings on the proposed Enbridge Northern Gateway pipeline project move to Prince Rupert today.
Between today and December 17th the Joint Review Panel will hear from the Northern Gateway witness panel that is dealing with marine environmental and socio-economic effects of the plan to build a tank farm and port for the export of bitumen from Alberta to Asia.

Following a break for Christmas the JRP takes oral statements from the public in Victoria, Vancouver and Kelowna during January before returning to Prince Rupert in February for another four Northern Gateway panels, then witnesses from intervenor groups and the federal government.

In all 24 witness panels have been scheduled for the Prince Rupert hearings. Major segments of questioning are scheduled to involve the Gitxaala and Haisla Nations. Enbridge, in turn, will pose questions to 14 witness panels comprised of intervenor groups.
It is expected the hearings in the New Year in Prince Rupert will run until May before moving to Terrace in June for final arguments before the Joint Review Panel.
The panel is to present the federal government with its recommendations of the proposed 6.5-billion-dollar pipeline project by the end of next year.
