Cougars Lose 2-0 to Swift Current.
Tuesday night in Prince George the Cougars were beaten 2-0 by the Swift Current Broncos. Adam Lowry broke a scoreless tie early in the third to pace Swift Current to their 14th win of the season. Cougars goaltender Brett Zarowny was named the game’s first star for his 33 save effort.
Both teams traded chances in the first period with neither team finding success. Brett Zarowny made a couple of key early saves, while his counterpart Steven Myland held his own as well. The Broncos received a late power play in the first, but were unable to capitalize.
Early in the second, Swift Current had a great chance on a breakaway, but Brett Zarowny robbed Graham Black with his glove, and the puck stayed out. Moments later Jarrett Fontaine was denied point-blank by Steven Myland, and the game was still scoreless at the end of two periods. The shots on goal were 25-10 favoring the visitors after two.
Early in the third, the Broncos found the back of the net when Adam Lowry converted off a pass from Chance Lund. Lund was able to free the puck from a Cougars defender and centered it for Lowry who notched his 17th of the season.
Ryan Moser added to the Broncos lead at 6:43 when the Broncos took advantage of a Cougars defensive miscue. Graham Black forced the puck free from behind the net, and found Moser who scored his 11th.
From there, Steven Myland kept the door shut for Swift Current, and held on for the shutout.
Swift Current outshot the Cougars 35 – 17 and improved their record to 14-16-3-2 with the victory. The Cougars killed off both Swift Current power plays but did not receive a power play themselves. Their record now sits at 10-17-1-3.
Next up, a trip to Vancouver for the first of three straight meetings between the Prince George Cougars and the Vancouver Giants.
Comments
It must have been quite the lopsided game to watch, and not in the Cougars’ favour.
I’m not sure I’ve heard of 1st star going to the losing goalie of a shut-out before.
