Prince George, B.C.- For the first time in the history of the Canada Winter Games, a First Nation has been officially named an “Official Host First Nation”.
That honour has been bestowed on the Lheidli T’enneh.
The event also means that for the first time in the history of Prince George, the Lheidli T’enneh flag is being flown within city limits. The flag will be showcased on the roof of Canada Games House in downtown Prince George, and will fly in the center of the Canadian and provincial flags, symbolizing the gathering place for the country in 2015.
“We welcome the opportunity to share our culture, language and traditions with the thousands of visitors, athletes and viewers from across Canada who will experience the 2015 Canada Winter Games,” says Lheidli T’enneh Chief Dominic Frederick.
The 2015 Canada Winter Games already use both of Canada’s official languages for communication and will incorporate Carrier syllabics and their translation into various marketing, pre-event and Games-time signage and pageantry to honour the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation. The Games are taking place on the Lheidli T’enneh traditional territory.
“This is a significant day for both parties,” said Anthony Everett, 2015 Canada Winter Games Board Chair. “We are proud to recognize the Lheidli T’enneh as our true partners in the 2015 Canada Winter Games. As the first inhabitants of Prince George, this is a foundational piece for sharing the northern story with the rest of Canada in 2015.”

Great news, if this means that they are gonna help pay for the games.
I love the use of the words “true partners”.
So which groups are “untrue partners”?
The things we all say that are not only ridiculous, but, as this one does in my opinion, border on being, or may actually be Freudian slips.
Hey, maybe you are onto something millworker. Maybe that is what distinguishes a true partner from a not so true partner. :-)
That’s awesome that they are helping to pay for some of the cost associated with these games. GREAT STUFF.
;)
of course they will need funding to host the games. What next?
This makes me want to hurl. The reason it is a first, is nobody thought to add a layer of PC crap on an event that is supposed to place the spotlight on the ATHLETES.
Styxx – both the BC Winter and Summer games have had host nations for years. I have been involved in several, Langley, Vernon, etc. This is not new, just new to the Canada games. Please explain why recognizing the traditional group from an area makes you want to “hurl”?
Shouldn’t the host “First Nation” open an office in their “embassy” instead? After all, this “nation” is Canada. Can you say “lip service”? I can.
Of course, if they are true partners, they will share in the profits, and the losses. So, does that mean if the games lose money, they will be kicking in some cash, and if they make money, the city writes them a cheque?
Scrooge is alive in PG, Bahumbug!
You must have pretty sad lives in order to be so negative all of the time.
I am so glad I do not know you.
Happy New Year to All
Ladybug, happy new year to you as well..
I too wait with baited breath to watch the crank250 squad roll out their rant on Santa abusing the reindeer…
Well, he does!!
I mean one of them has a red nose and he does not give him time off so that he can teake care of his cold. …. :-(
BTW, I dids not write this at first, but it is very condescending to call a first nations a “true partner”. Was the term “true partner” used for other partners? Is the implication that First Nations are not “true partners”.
These poeple need some sensitivity training.
YAY!!!
@DM…your kid is into your O250 account
What do you mean Lheidli Tenneh was named Host First Nation…. was it a contest, and there were other people trying to claim it???????
What is “traditional group”? So wrapped up in PC speak you don’t know what the heck is the term right now.
first nations partners, typically they will want 51% of the profits without putting up anything. Delt with this group before.
This is a traditional grpoup.

They ddo not speak PC. They speak Czech.
;-)
Actually, in Carrier “welcome” is two word phrase, not a word. It says ts’uhoont’i whuzahdel “we are glad that you (3 or more) have come”.
Sad to see so many thinly vieled racist comments on Opinion 250.
You should be proud Ben!
