Prince George, B.C.- The Regioinal District of Fraser Fort George has said yes to several applications from Telus to erect transmission towers in the region.
Telus is working with the Province of B.C in trying to improve cell coverage in the Province. The applications supported by the Regional District will see new installations on Highway 97 in the Summit Lake region, and two new installations in Dunster and Dome Creek along highway 16.
The installations are part of the Telus plans to expand new wireless coverage along 1,700 kilometers of highways throughout the Province of British Columbia to improve the safety of highway travel.

The Summit Lake tower is going to be a big plus enabling cell coverage to Bear Lake. Bear Lake is notorious for losing phone connections with trees down on the lines and what not, so adding the cell coverage will help a lot.
Good news to be sure. The height of land South of Windy Point would be another good area to add a tower which could provide coverage all along HWY 39 to Mackenzie and back to McLeod Lake.
More coverage in Telkwa area would be nice
Hey TELUS what about College Heights. Poor coverage there.
Telus has had this as part of their “future coverage” ever since I had my first cell phone 20 years ago.
darn – that might give me cell coverage at my cabin… there goes my “escape” lol
“darn – that might give me cell coverage at my cabin… there goes my “escape” lol” .. the beauty of cell phones is you can turn them off if you don’t want to be bothered. It would simply be nice to have better coverage up on the hart.

true but then it comes down to will power, not ability lol
Telus has made an application for cell towers at Kerry Lake and Tudyah Lake (Mackenzie Times Dec 19/2012

Telus has been approved to construct a tower at their Cowart Road building location to “address coverage gaps in College Heights.” Although it is somewhat of an odd location to improve College Heights (bottom of Peden Hill) I’m sure they know what they’re doing. The tower is going to be 29 metres in height.
This is great news for Telus Mobility customers, but I’m curious to know why Rogers Communications has significantly stalled any new tower buildouts in the North. The most recent tower they’ve constructed is, at UNBC. And from my understanding, its a shared tower with Telus. I’m hoping Opinion250 can get in touch with Rogers Communications and see why, if they can co-exist on some infrastructure, then why not also on these highway projects. They have yet to fill in the coverage gap from here to Jasper!

Yes Telkwa would be nice as well… probably the most important location west of PG as it encompasses the area that includes 6-mile hill where there is also a dead spot for CB radio repeaters too. Thats a nasty nasty hill this time of year.
