Pair of pups relax on the rear window ledge of a Prince George Police Cruiser – submitted photo
Prince George, BC.- Anyone looking at the back of one RCMP Police Cruiser this morning, might have taken a double take. Were the Mounties bringing shitzus into the police dog duty? Nah….. the pups were recovered from a stolen vehicle case, and would soon be back with their owner.
Seems a Prince George woman had left her two dogs in her car in the 2100 block of Norwood this morning and left the motor running. A male jumped in the vehicle and tookoff, stealing the ’91 Mercury Topaz and the two little shitzus.
A short time later, police received a call from an 18th Avenue business saying they wanted to report a male, believed to be impaired, told them he was planning to drive to Quesnel.
Exact details on how officers spotted the stolen vehicle and arrested the suspect driver are not yet available, but the end of the story is , the vehicle was recovered on East Central between 10th and 5th Avenues, a male is in custody facing possible charges, and the two little pooches are back with their owner.

Really? You left your car running on Norwood?
But… it’ll never happen to ME…. right?
Yah, the 2100 block too! A DUH? moment.
Mutt should be sitting in the drivers lap. Looks like the dogs are not secured in the vehicle to me which is supposed to be a law.
Is that really the law? You sure about that?
Seriously people? So no fault to the thief?
This is why we are number one!
For sure , in a work vehicle I think its law
That’s awful! And yes, it was cold today. Perhaps she was warming her car up, as so many of us do before venturing out.
Good job to the store employee who reported the would be drunk driver.
How about good job by the cops to catch him so quick.
A feel good story only to have comments criticizing 1, the car owner, 2, the RCMP and how they dogs are secured.
Certainly a bunch of negative nellie’s on this site.
Congratulations to the dogs for making it home, the lady for getting her car back, the RCMP for getting their man, and the drunk thief for keeping PG in the number one spot….
One hundred-fifty years ago if he stole someones horse with saddle (car) he would have been hung.Get caught with a stolen car today, lets hang a few,,,auto theft would soon halt?
Really acrider54, nothing better to gripe about. Not everyday the police have to rescue animals so they are not really equiped. They did a great job and you still have to whine.
I like it onefinger!
“For sure , in a work vehicle I think its law”
There you go thinking again.
RCMP vehicles are not covered by the same laws as our vehicles whether it be WCB or road laws.
No law broken here.
Looks to me like its a parked car kept running to keep the dogs warm. Probably waiting for the proper transportation equipment.
