Prince George, B.C. – It was definitely a night to bundle up against the elements as groups of hearty Prince George souls turned out to celebrate the Winter Solstice, the beginning of winter which officially arrived at 3:12 am Friday.
Snowmen and ice sculptures, decorative lights and a warming fire pit welcomed those who braved bone-chilling
temperatures to take in the winter atmosphere outside City Hall. Residents were invited to a Solstice Soiree at the nearby Farmer’s Market, which was followed by a lantern walk. A handful of enthusiastic folks gathered at the Civic Centre (pictured right) and then walked with their lanterns to the gathering spot at the hall.
There were vendors plying their wares, a telescope was set up allowing those interested to look at the minute detail of a three-quarter moon. And, as seasonal songs played in the background children took full advantage of a sliding hill built out of snow which is located right smack dab in the middle of the grounds out in front of City Hall.
It’s a fun winter atmosphere set up in a town square-type setting which could, if you let your mind experience it, take you back to the days of Dickens. But remember the bundle up part, too! Temperatures are forecast to be in the minus 15 to 20 range for the next week or so. Add in the wind chill factor and it can be mighty cold out there.

WHY is not that story about the Prince George family not on this site?? They have a special needs child and Telus installed a chair lift in their van so the sweet child could have some freedom and get around town with his family.. It’s on Google News.
Merry Christmas to that family.. These children are treasured and on loan to us. they are so precious.. I commend the parents for taking on such responsibility and hope they always keep the grandparents involved in the child’s life for that means so much to the child..
Just read the story Stillsmokin. So awesome!!!
