Volunteer Sessions Begin For 2015 Canada Winter Games

Sunday, December 30, 2012 @ 5:10 AM

Volunteer recruitment sessions have begun at Canada Games House on Quebec Street

Prince George, BC – 774 days and counting until Prince George hosts the 2015 Canada Winter Games…

With the countdown clock on the Games’ webpage quietly ticking down, volunteer recruitment efforts are ramping up.  The Canada Games House on Quebec Street hosted a number of volunteer recruitment sessions earlier this month that saw more than 60 people attend.

More sessions are being held mid-January – the 14th, 15th, and 16th – with anyone interested being asked to RSVP by emailing volunteer@canadagames2015.ca, or phoning 250-596-2015 when the office re-opens on January 2nd.

It’s expected that as many as 4500 volunteers will be needed to host the largest multi-sporting and cultural event ever held in our region, from February 13th until March 1st, 2015.

The 2015 Games Host Society is also seeking input from athletes from across the region who will be eligible to compete in a bid to meet its top priority of providing an ‘exceptional athlete experience’.  Click here to submit an application for the Athlete Approved Advisory Group.

Wil 60 people be enough to spend all our tax dollars on this great project?
Cheers

“February 13th until March 1st, 2015”

I wonder if I can I rent out my house for then. If so, I’ll book my trip out of town.

Me thinks that I have donated (volunteered) enough through $ taxes! Thank you.

Bought to you by the same great people who built a community heating system so the taxpayer could pay more per GJ of energy, the PG hotel purchase, an almost 10 million dollar dike, ever increasing taxes, and the coveted position as crime capital of Canada.

2015 CWG’s will be the best thing ever to happen for our great city. Just like the Olympics, most people will participate and enjoy the games, and a predictable minority will hurl abuse and negativity from their armchairs. City’s need celebrations and positive capacity building to mature- it’s of course got to be balanced with potholes and sewer repairs, but PG NEEDS these games to help the positive silent majority a chance to step up to the plate.

Like them or not, the Games are coming to PG. You can either support it, or sit at home and sulk.

“most people will participate and enjoy the games, and a predictable minority will hurl abuse and negativity from their armchairs.”
quote of the day – two thumbs up

I can think of many many ways to enjoy myself other than to sit around and watch winter sports.

In fact when I look out the window, I see all the winter I can stand. Used to Ski, Skate, play hockey, etc; when I was young, however it no longer has any appeal what so ever.

I wish them the best, and hopefully they will get the requiste number of volunteers needed.

I was not then, and am not now in favour of these games, however you win some and you lose some.
