Prince George, BC –  The Governor General of Canada has announced 91 new appointments to the Other of Canada, including former BC Premier Mike Harcourt.

Harcourt is one of 33 new Officers of the Order of Canada.  In releasing the list of appointees, Harcourt was cited for his leadership on civic, legal, and sustainability issues, and for promoting spinal cord research.  Others include:  the Honourable Sheila Copps, the Honourable Ken Dryden, former Assembly of First Nations Chief Phil Fontaine, and former Newfoundland Premier, Brian Tobin.

Five time Olympian, Charmaine Crooks, has been appointed a Member of the Order of Canada for serving at the highest levels of international sport and for continuing to serve as a role model for athletic excellence and engagement.  A total of 56 new Members have been announced including CBC journalist Michael Enright and hockey legend Paul Henderson.

Former Supreme Court of Canada Justice, the Honourable Louise Charron, was one of two recipients of the Companion of the Order of Canada.

The Order is one of the country’s highest civillian honours, recognizing a lifetime of outstanding achievement, dedication to community, and service.  The recipients will be invited to accept their insignia from Governor General David Johnston at a ceremony to be held at a later date.
