Prince George, BC – After a New Year’s Eve fire forced the cancellation of the annual Polar Bear Dip at Ness Lake Bible Camp last year, the 12th Annual returns tomorrow…

The spectacular blaze that saw weekend campers safely evacuated from the site last December 31st, razed the camp’s gymnasium.

Brave ‘dippers’ heading out to tomorrow’s event will have the opportunity to see the newly constructed gym, where pre-dip ceremonies and costume judging will be held starting at 2:30pm. (250News file photo)

The polar bear dip is open to anyone aged 12 and older with the registration fee of $20 waived if you raise more than that in pledges.  There are prizes for the top fundraiser and best costume.

All proceeds go towards the Camper Sponsorship Fund, which helps kids attend summer camp at Ness Lake.

My daughter does it every year for fun and meeting up with friends she doesnt see all of the time – she could care less about 15 minutes of fame. Enjoy your couch.

It makes for a good local news story, but I would guess these people would be doing this whether the media was there or not.

Its lots of Fun just to get out and see people you may have not seen in a while. Plus the excitement of just to survive in the sub zero water and all the money goes to a good cause Congratulations Ness Lake we love you keep it up

I remember Ness Lake residents doing this in the 70’s long before anyone was interested in media attention. Have fun everyone and Happy New Year!

I thought sub zero water would have been called ice …… :-)

That’s kind of a crappy thing to say about doing it for the media coverage. Its a tradition that dates back a long ways. Like Interceptor said…..enjoy your couch.

I know I wouldn’t drop into that cold water for a cheque never mind the media attention.

Yes, back to your couch and chips. The Polar Bear Dip is one of the last cool events PG has left do to the liability concerns. Any one remember the Nechako Raft Race and the Sand Blast?

“I thought sub zero water would have been called ice …… :-)”
lol – good one Gus. Although one could argue that it depends on water purity and atmospheric pressure…

It all works out then because this years Polar Bear Dip is sponsored by Lazy-Boy, Doritos, and of course, what crazy event isn’t sponsored by Red Bull.

Remember the good ol’ days….Mardi-Gras of winter, snowgolf, broomball, sno-juice and of course Don Prentice and Nestor Pistor.

Ahhh yes, Nestor Pistor and the purple balls of snowgolf, that was quite a time. Booze was taken pretty lightly then, what a crazy party.

Who still has their Nestor Pistor records? Does anybody still have a turntable to play them?

“There was 2 guys sitting in a 2 seater outhouse, one guy stands up and you hear plunk, plunk, plunk. “Ahhhh crap!” the guys says, reaches into his pocket, takes out a 20 dollar bill and throws it down the hole.

The other guy looks at him, “what the heck did you do that for?” he exclaims!!!. The first guy replies “you dont think I am going down there for two dimes, a knickel and a quarter do you?!!!”

Always loved Nestor.

hahahaha – “so what, everybody pees in the swimming pool” “NOT from the high diving board!!”

Man, lotta OLD FARTS on here………

grad 87 baby – lol. Nearly archaic

The kids are on Fritter and Spacebook. Old farts need somewhere to be.
