Frosty Windshield May Have Contributed to Accident

Prince George, B.C. – A windshield not completely cleared of frost, may have been a contributing factor in a crash that resulted in the death of one person and injuries to three others.
Police also say they have found the carcass of a dog near the crash site, but don’t know if the dog was in the vehicle or was on the road at the time of the crash.
The accident occurred on Monday December 31st, on Highway 97 north at the intersection of Wall Road on the northern outskirts of the city. Police say the initial investigation indicates that the driver of a south bound Ford Explorer lost control crossed the center line and collided with a north bound pickup that in turn collided with another pickup travelling north.
The driver of the Explorer died at the scene while his passenger, a female, was first taken to Hospital in Prince George and later transferred to Vancouver in serious condition. The drivers of the other two pick ups were treated for minor injuries.
The identities of all involved have not yet been released.

Oh man….what a tragic way to go.
R.I.P.
If your stupid enough to drive without having cleaned your windshield you will always have an increased chance of an incident and it appears the driver paid the ultimate price for his inability to scrape his windshield completely off.
I don’t scrape my windshield off.
I put down a length of vinyl approximately 2 meters in length anchored to the window by closing each end in the door jam at the windshields edge.
Takes ten seconds to deploy and ten seconds to wrap up and throw in the back seat when I need to go in a hurry… no scraping involved and perfectly clean windows every time.
I never found scraping my windshield to be that much of a hassle. It’s part of living up here.
I do the minim scraping. let the defrost do the rest. How fast are you driving to cause an accident before the defrost do the rest? Also, I’d like to know what both people were in. My personal feeling is that if your not in a truck, well your taking your own chances. Yes I am gonna get flamed for this but, on the other hand I drive a truck so I don’t care. It doesn’t matter who’s right or wrong if someones dies but I’ll take my chances in a steel frame car/truck instead of a unibody car/truck
Oh I re read the post and see that there was a unibody explorer and a steel frame truck. Sad, but at the same time, I’ll stick with my steel frame truck
Potholes must be smoking pot, must be one of the idiots that think a pickup makes you invincible. Are you seriously saying that if you don’t drive a freaking pickup it’s your own fault if you are involved in an accident? Most people I see in pickups have a shocking lack of common sense and courtesy for others on the road, I’m sure you fall into that category. People just need to drive according to conditions, clean your windows and above all watch out for the idiot in the dodge (it’s really not a Ferrari?) ram truck coming up behind you.
I drove into PG about 2 weeks ago and my windshield became very misted with oil or something from the tires of the truck ahead of me. I could not get my windshield clean no matter how much I tried. The more I wiped the worse it got. I finally had to stop and wait for the truck to get ahead so I would not get the spray from it. So don’t jump to conclusions about what happened. We will never know! It is just tragic it happened.
bonneville smoking pot does not make one an idiot. pothole obviously feels safe in his truck as do I, in bad weather i leave my car at home and take the truck. not because Im an idiot but because i FEEL better. saying all peopl in trucks are bad drivers is kinda not smart. and if the city did a good job on the roads maybe some of these accedents wouldnt happen or wouldnt be so bad, and i could save gas and drive the car
Leaving snow on the hood or roof is equally as bad. It can fly up onto a warmed windshield and instantly fog it over or slide off the roof doing the same thing. That’s why it is illegal not to clean the roof or hood.
I should have taken a picture of a car I saw the other day driving to work. Looked like all he did was use washer fluid to clear the windshield, scraped an itty bitty spot on driver side window – I’m assuming so that he could use his mirror – and nothing else. Couldn’t see in or out of anywhere else on the car. What’s an extra 2 minutes in the morning?
And Potholes – I also drive a truck but I make sure I can see everything around me. If I ever get in an accident with someone who’s windows are not free of frost/snow/ice I am taking pictures and providing them to ICBC.
Potholes it won’t matter much if you hit something bigger than your truck and good luck isn’t on your side that day,you may not survive. Most people drive like idiots in there trucks because they seem to feel they are safer in them. One never knows when there time is up,no matter what they’re driving!
I’m getting a piece of vinyl.
I was there. the suv hit the dog then lost control
Never swerve for a dog!
Went Shopping at Collage Height yesterday, Car beside me in the Parking Lot had 2 feet of Snow on the Roof, pointed it out to the Guy, Answer was I had no Time to take it of.
What a busy life we have.
Maybe they were in an “no idle” zone. It takes a bit of warming up the car (or truck) on a cold day to make sure the windshield doesn’t fog up on the inside.
I am curious about the headlines leading into this article. Why didn`t it lead with the dog possibility? The article tends to point fingers which I don`t believe is in the outline of what reporting is all about.
