Joint Review Panel Back at Work

Prince George, B.C. –The Joint Review Panel examining the proposed Enbridge Northern Gateway project, returns to work today.
Oral statements will be heard today, through the 11th in Victoria, then move to Vancouver to hear statements from the 14th to the 18th. The panel then moves to Kelowna on the 28th for one day and returns to Vancouver on January 30th through the 1st of February.
Once the community hearings for oral statements have been completed, the Panel will get back to the questioning phase of the final hearings, and that is set for Prince Rupert.
The questioning phase will continue until mid-May. Final argument (both written and oral) will take place from mid-May to the end of June 2013. The Panel will release its recommendation report by the end of this year.

I’d rather have a lot of things too, but that’s beside the point. That’s not how the JRP works. If you want to change that, I’d suggest you get into politics and change the system. Good luck!
Facts are we have a drilling ship grounded off the coast of Alaska right now because it could not be controlled by four tug vessels, two of which were 300 foot long four engine ships. They say the winds were too strong and in seas with 30-foot waves they could not control the vessel and the cables broke and it drifted aground.
In open seas and waters not nearly as dangerous as the proposed Douglas Channel route none the less.
After this incident how could anyone say with certainty this wouldn’t happen with loaded ships of bituman off our coast.
We should probably shut all the pulp mills down too because of explosion risk.
