Winter Games Business Plan To Be Presented

Monday, January 7, 2013 @ 4:48 AM
Prince George, B.C. – The   Canada Winter Games Society will be presenting its business plan to Council for the City of Prince George this evening.

The plan outlines an operating budget of $27.5 million dollars and a capital plan of just over$19 million.

While much of the budget is covered through   funding from all three levels of government, the report says “The key to successful 2015 Games will rest with the Host Society’s ability to generate private sector fundraising in excess of $9,285,000 and ticket and merchandise sales revenue over $1,150,000. The revenue generation from private sector sponsors, ticket buyers and merchandise sales represents
approximately 40% of the funds required to achieve the business plans, legacy programs and operations of the Games.”

The budget includes an $800 thousand dollar contingency fund “just in case”.

Also on the agenda for this evening’s meeting, the first of the new year,   is the receipt of the notice of motion from Councillor Brian Skakun, who is calling for details on spending with suppliers. (see previous story).  It is expected Council will  actually deal with this item   at its next meeting.

Council will welcome a delegation from Spectra Energy, as well as hear from the Prince George Teachers Association as they call for the City to work with the Provincial government on developing a  detailed poverty reduction program for the Province.

“hear from the Prince George Teachers Association as they call for the City to work with the Provincial government on developing a detailed poverty reduction program for the Province”

So how many teachers in the province are facing poverty.

Or maybe they are talking about the City facing poverty? Or its taxpaying supporters?

“merchandise sales revenue over $1,150,000”

I assume that is net merchandise sales revenue. If so, what is the gross aoles that have to be achieved.

If it is gross sales, what is the net profit which has to be achieved?

Here’s a poverty reduction plan that worked for me. I went to college for 2 years in Kamloops circa 1980’s – with government assistance which I am thankful for. Then, while fellow grads hung around Kamloops waiting for great jobs (during a recession), my family and I humped it up to Mackenzie where my skills were needed, worked there for 5 years, made our way down to PG, where we’ve stayed ever since.

Apparently the current poverty reduction plan includes – give more to those who don’t wish to work, don’t wish to retrain, and don’t wish to live anywhere but the lower mainland.

It’s insane we are paying people welfare in Langley, while Tim Hortons in Chetwynd is hiring from the Phillipines, and mines are hiring from almost anywhere they can get someone with a pulse.

A true poverty reduction plan is one that helps people get skills they need, helps them move to where the skills are needed, and then that’s their new home. We can’t move the resources to sunny Vancouver, so we have to move the people to the resources.

And for those who can never obtain higher skills, instead of paying them welfare in Vancouver, relocate them to Dawson creek, add their welfare cheque onto their minimum wage job giving Dawson Creek workers they need, and workers a half decent wage, and the self esteem that comes from earning some of your living.

Or am I being too harsh.

Yea you wonder why with the unemployment at over seven percent we have to be holding job fairs in the US to recruit workers, import them from China, etc. we need to be training our own to fill these positions. There are some that actually need welfare for lots of reasons but I agree the young and able should receive training and sent to work.

ski50, your not harsh, your voicing your opinon which is accurate. I agree with your comments.

However, there will be some lilly a$$ed whiners out their that still feels that it is against their constitutional rights.

Personally, I say. “hang onto your constiturional rights” we will hang on to their checks. There is work out there, get to work and stop whinning.

Hoped they used IPG expertise.

Is expecting or hoping private donors to come up with millions really a business plan ? Sounds like taking off into the sky with half a flight plan. Maybe Todd D. can relate to that analogy.

The 2013 Winter/Summer Games will be to look after the vested interests of the proponents of the Haldi Road Treatment centre.

Try and sell off Pine Valley Golf course to commercial interests so that we can have more car lots, or big box stores, WHOOPEE.

Bring back downtown parking meters so that we can piss off shoppers, and business.

Last but not least, continue to provide less than stellar snow removal.

The games will begin at Vanway School Thursday nite with the OCP changes.
