Raging Granny Bats a Thousand on B and E Suspect
Friday, January 11, 2013 @ 3:44 PM
Prince George, B.C. – Sometimes, you just shouldn’t mess with a senior citizen.
Early this morning, aroung 6:30, a 68 year old woman called Prince George RCMP to report that an unknown male had broken into her Norwood Street home. He apparently gained access through a window.
There was no sign of the suspect when police arrived, but the woman told them she woke up to a noise in her home. She went to invesitgate, and spotted a "bouncing light from a flashlight" in her kitchen. She grabbed a near by baseball bat, and started swinging. She hit the suspect several times before he could make his way out of the residence.
Although police patrolled the area, they weren’t able to spot the suspect who is described as:
- Male
- Approximately 165 cm (5’5") tall
- Overweight
- Wearing a puffy winter jacket with dark brown fur trim and the hood up
The suspect may have injuries to his arms, hands or torso. "Hopefully someone will recognize the description of the jacket which is pretty distinct, and there is the fact this suspect suffered some injuries" says Corporal Craig Douglass. He adds that while police don’t condone citizens taking matters into their own hands, this was a case where the woman felt threatened in her own home.
If you have any information about this Criminal offence or the person responsible, please contact the Prince George RCMP at (250)561-3300 or anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1(800)222-8477, online at www.pgcrimestoppers.bc.ca(English only), or Text-A-Tip to CRIMES (274637) using keyword "pgtips".

Well done.
Good for her!
My wife has an ice axe handy for the few times I’m away … wouldn’t want to be the punk who tries to get into our house when she’s the only one around. She will be swinging first and asking questions later. I made sure I phoned home one year when I was going to be home a day early from a trip.
This sounds excessive; injuries to the arms, hands and torso ! Bad guy is 5’5″ tall so not very big ! Did gramma really have to inflict such injuries to get him out ? Did she ask him to leave before she began the assault of an unarmed little man ? Why does gramma have a bat at the ready ? Sounds like gramma should be investigated and put on an order of no bats in her possession except for playing softball ! Shame, shame gramma !

Boon – Are you serious! If the guy breaks into your house are you going to invite him for tea and cookies? Good for Granny. I hope the guy has more even more hurt than is reported.
Boon – REALLY?
opine- you read my mind!
Damn. She didn’t hurt him enough. A little more injury would force him to go to hospital. A couple busted knee caps would slow him down. Way to go Granny! You’re my hero!
maybe if someone breaks into your Place you can ask him first if he is armed or the Gun is real, he was lucky she did not dispatch for good.My Home is my Castle!
Boon, how are your bat injuries feeling now? Perhaps get rid of that jacket, because it’s too distinctive.
Good for that lady for not allowing herself to be victimized.
You go Granny! next time, swing for the knees
Boon, are you for real, read the story again. He may have injuries to his arm, hands or torso. I can tell you this, I am 68 widower 5.4″. He is 5.5 and probably 40 or more years younger. I think a bat beside the bed is a good idea, hope if something like this would happen to me would have the guts to use it. Good for you Granny. Hope the rest of the day was better for you.
I about laughed out loud when I read Boon. Surely you guys can see through what is really being said here. Boon feels like we all do about our hero granny. She’s a hero. We all can see this. Read between the lines. Corporal Douglass outlines a situation in Canada that is truly sick. Corporal Craig Douglass has his head in the wrong place. He does not want us to take the law into our own hands. What does he think we should we do in such a situation? Speak up sir. Go public on radio, in print, on TV. Help us here. Give us some training. What should we do when faced with a home invasion?
Hey, it ain’t Grannies fault – it’s the bats fault. Everybody repeat after me “Ban the bat”!
I think boon is trying to be sarcastic. I’m not sure why though. Nobody gets prosecuted for protecting their homes with a reasonable amount of force.
Bats do not hurt people – people hurt people! Keep all the crazies away from bats!!
BOON: Love your humour! That was great!
They are looking for Citizen of the Year, I’d nominate Granny in a heartbeat. Good decision making, as far and flight or fight goes, she made the right decision and beat the crap out of an intruder. She didn’t have a bunch of advisers catering to her decision
making process, she just took it on and dealt with it.
Yes this could have turned ugly, but it didn’t, just like the guy smacking the intruder with a shovel a while ago, got rid of the problem.
Sounds like a good person to have at City Hall, might teach a few folks how to operate in a crisis.
Thanks Grandma for making our day!
I just saw the perp @ WorkWearhouse in College Heights and he had a lot of friends too.
1 whole rack of “distinctive” jackets that match the description.
Well, we really don’t have ‘home is a castle law’ in Canada; so can’t use a firearm! A baseball bat is an equalizer for sure. She’s not the only one that may have something beside the bed. Beware burglars! You go Girl!
Way to go grandma! Hopefully he’s missing some teeth so he has something to remind him of his lowlife deed! The coward probably thought she was easy pickins. Too bad he probably isn’t aware of what could happen at other residences. I grew up on a ranch. You home invade a ranch, you wouldn’t do it again. This generation really has no clue or respect for others
well done Grandma, maybe all the idiots that break into people’s house will read this and figure it out. LEAVE OTHER PEOPLE’S S&$T ALONE
Can they read? Just wondering.
way to go gran!
oh – and anyone hacking on Boon need to go to http://www.dictionary.com and type in “sarcasm”
In my house I will be judged by twelve, not carried by six.
Way to go Granny! You deserve a medal! Too bad you didn’t aim for the head and put a few lumps there too! I’m going to have to find a baseball bat to keep by my bed.
Good for Gran. I sure hope someone stays with her for a few days. I hope they give her a medal. That’s what people need to do. Fix it themselves cause the courts just let them go anyways.
I woun’t call this taking the law into your own hands. I hope it is seen as the right to protect ones self and/or property. I would have beaten the SOB to death and claim I feared for my life–just like the RCMP do.
When I get old there will probably be a gun under my pillow because this city will be #1 crime capital of North America by then. What’s going to happen about those two young guys who were assaulted a few days ago? Probation?? They should get 3 years of public humility as well as their names in the paper. What chicken sh– country this is turning into. We’re no better off than slaves.
Right on Granny! He deserved it, and more. I hope they catch him!
Good for you lady!Break into my house and first you have to get by the security system, then the 120lb. dog,my wife spraying bear mace and screaming for me to wake up,and then some 250lb.male swinging a baseball bat, firing a .22,glock whatever comes in handy at that moment, and if you are not already dead, putting you in handcuffs and torturing your little sick ass until I decide to call the cops.Good Luck, come by for a visit!
Granny Power
Good job Granny. I used to live down in that area years ago. It wasn’t as scary as it is now but still not safe. I had two German shepherds. We’re they mean? We’re they friendly? No one ever stick around long enough to find out once they realized they were there. I live in the country and now have three German shepherds. We’ve had the odd case of someone snooping around, as soon as they see or hear dogs they disappear real quick.
Moral of the story. If you love alone in a questionable neighbourhood get a big dog. Most people won’t stick around long enough to see whether its friendly or not.
Yup, dogs are a good thing; doesn’t have to be big either! They love to protect their home and people! Dog at your ankles & a granny swinging a bat-good luck burglars.
Cpl. Douglass has to speak the official line. He was probably having to suppress a grin of admiration when he said this.
This lady did the right thing.
Lets see the perp try and press charges! Then the public will know who he is. Probably wouldn’t last a day out in the public then!
Way to go Lady!
Had fun with some, but others were too clever. I was just trying to identify some potential jurors in the event I find myself in that predicament. Good job Granny, next time hit harder and home run the family jewels ! You ARE allowed to protect yourself and your home……..the new ‘Lucky Moose’ bill C-126 passed into law in 2012…….thank you Mr. Harper. Ironically, a lawyer gives the bat scenario as an example. Just remember…..”he wouldn’t get out of my house and kept coming at me officer”

I work in the court system and have the good fortune to meet some interesting people. I recently worked with someone from MCFD who had actually been a 25 year city police officer and he worked just in home burglaries. He said in 25 years he never once showed up to a burglarized home where the owners had left the dogs loose in the house. The dogs were either crated, Locked in the garage (attached and/or detached) or were left in the fenced back yards.
After hearing that I always leave at least one dog (usually 2 or all 3 though) in the house. We have a window right by our front door and the dogs like to peek out the window when someone comes up the sidewalk.
We have had a few incidents of punks poking around our property late at night and we let a dog out. They move real quick……the punks I mean.
