Spruce Kings Grab Three of Four Weekend Points

Saturday, January 12, 2013 @ 9:24 PM
Prince George, B.C. – The prince George Spruce Kings scored four times in the second period on their way to a 7-2 romp over the Express in Coquitlam Saturday night.

And the line of Lyndon Martell, Coltyn Hansen and newly-acquired David Stephens did most of the damage. Martell had two goals and two assists, Hansen a goal and three helpers and Stephens scored his first BCHL goal and added two assists for the Spruce Kings. Cameron Lawson also notched a goal and one assist.

The Spruce Kings led 1-0 after one on Shayne Morrissey’s 12th goal of the season. Prince George scored three more by the midway point of the second before Coquitlam finally got on the board before Martell scored his first of the night to make it 5-1 Kings after 40 minutes.

Zachary Pryzbek made it 5-2 at 8:25 of the third but moments later Kings’ goalie Kirk Thompson made a huge save on a 3 on 1 break to shut down any momentum the home team may have had. Hansen at 16:22 and Martell at 19:16 closed out the scoring.

Coquitlam outshot Prince George 37-35 but, outside of the first period, were never in the game. The Kings took four minors to two for the Express.

The victory gives the Spruce Kings 45 points in third place in the Mainland Division. They’ll play host to the Chilliwack Chiefs next Friday and Saturday at the Coliseum.
