Houston, B.C.-Police are contemplating charges against the driver of a pick up truck that collided with a school bus near Houston yesterday.
Around 4 yesterday afternoon, Houston RCMP were called to a head on collision on Highway 16 near the Alix frontage road, about 2 km west of Houston.
18 children were on the bus at the time of the crash, luckily none of the children suffered any injuries.
According to police, the collision with a blue pick up truck forced the school bus off the road. The bus and ended up on its side.
After being examined by fire rescue and ambulance staff at the scene, the students were transported to Houston to be picked up by waiting and concerned parents.
The driver of the blue pickup was transported to Smithers Hospital by EHS for treatment of minor but non-life threatening injuries.
RCMP investigators have determined that alcohol or drugs are not believed to be factors in the crash and are attributing the collision to the pick-up truck driver’s inattention to traffic conditions. Witnesses have told police the westbound pick-up truck crossed into the eastbound lane to avoid a collision with two other eastbound vehicles that were stopped and preparing to turn left off the highway. One of the two vehicles stopped on the highway was able to avoid the collision by pulling off to the side. The pick up truck hit the bus then hit the other stopped vehicle.
There was light snow falling at the time but little accumulation on the highway.
Investigators are contemplating possible motor vehicle charges against the driver of the pick-up truck.

To the driver of this truck, you got lucky that you didn’t kill anyone. Pay attention when you’re driving. People are allowed to turn and to stop and wait for traffic so that they may turn safely. Also truck driver, please hit the ditch when swerving to avoid a collision. My god, what were you thinking when you served into the path of a school bus? Personally, I’d prefer the ditch.
Am I missing something here, the truck swerved to miss a vehicle turning left in front of him and he gets charged. Something missing in the story.
Maybe he only had an instant to think. A vehicle with a baby on board sticker will never be in an accident.
“A vehicle with a baby on board sticker will never be in an accident”.
Are you serious?
“westbound pick-up truck crossed into the eastbound lane to avoid a collision with two other eastbound vehicles”
I is confused.
Sounds like he was trying to avoid a rear ender with other WESTBOUND vehicles meaning he couldn’t stop, ergo, not paying attention?
Story says east not west. I was trying a little sarc about the school bus comment.
Very confusing description of what occured. What was in the westbound lane, impeding the pickup? Perhaps the vehicles stopped to turn left were westbound.
My kids were on that bus. The pickup truck was heading west bound as we’re the vehicles in front of it. The pickup was going too fast for conditions and in order to avoid hitting the vehicles in front of Jim he swerved into the eastbound lane into oncoming traffic…. Namely my kids school bus. Most terrifying phone call I have ever received in my life.
