The female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, the male driver was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Police say the vehicle  had been reported stolen  earlier this week. Police remain on the scene  and Pacific, just north of the intersection, will remain closed for another few hours.

“Drive it like you stole it”……

Wow, airbags deployed all around and someone still died? I’m guessing no seatbelt was being used.

And is that a Government vehicle of some sort? Given the markings on the front fender?

Nonetheless, not nice to see.

Maybe an airbag broke someone’s neck ….

Reactive safety systems are not foolproof…..

Reported problems with Ford Escape airbags….

I do not know whether crash forensic experts look at the way airbags were deployed and relate that to injuries received by vehicle occupants.

I suspect not, especially in hinterland locations where such experts are far and few between and get little practical experience compared to larger metro areas.

Well, it is a Ford, so “product failure or design defect” is certainly a very good possibility.

Stolen vehicle? Do you really think they’re gonna wear seat belts? Well weird stuff happens.

That Ford Escape chart is disturbing to see.

ICBC will pay for that. I will pay ICBC. Someone had to pay with their life. Guess I shouldn’t complain about my payment. Bummer. Lesson learned? I doubt it.

“I suspect not, especially in hinterland locations where such experts are far and few between and get little practical experience compared to larger metro areas.”

I suggest you give Harvey Nelson of the RCMP a call. He heads the crash analysis team for the north.

looks like a northern health authority vehicle by the markings on the front by the windshield.

since it was a single car crash I would say they hit some ice and slammed into a power pole…….just a guess

Sad that a girl (presumably young) lost her life due to the evident stupidity of the male driver. Hope he can live with the guilt. Maybe this will change his behaviour.
metalman.

were the police after them.?

Reported elsewhere that the driver was 42 and that speed and alcohol were involved, might get more than one day in the Hilton on the hill.

One of the problem with airbags is that they are more powerful than they need to be in an effort to protect an unrestrained passenger. If I ran the zoo a person who does not buckle up would have to accept the consequences as the airbags would be set to protect people who do wear the seat belt.

Looks like it happened on that corner by the underpass. It gets really slippery on that road on a regular basis. Alcohol, speed, icy roads, not surprised someone died.

RIP young lady. I hope the driver gets the book thrown at him for this or maybe his injuries will make him remember for the rest of his life.

Wow. I can’t believe some of the inane comments considering someone lost their life. I guess that’s what you can expect from armchairexpert250.com.

“He heads the crash analysis team for the NORTH”

As I said, the hinterlands ….. ;-)
