Province to Streamline Mine Exploration Process

Prince George, B.C.- The Provincial Government is taking steps it says will increase competitiveness, reduce backlog and create a smarter permitting process for mine exploration in B.C.
The Province will provide an extra $7 million dollars to increase efficiencies for exploration and improve processing times for applications.
In 2012, companies spent $680 million dollars in mining exploration in B.C. That’s a 47% increase from the record breaking $462 million spent in 2011.
Since 2011, three new mines have started production and three more have been permitted with construction underway. Another five mines have received permits for major expansions since September of 2011.

“The Province will provide an extra $7 million dollars to increase efficiencies for exploration and improve processing times for applications.”
Will someone please enlighten as to how the supposed reduction in paperwork (that is what an “increase in efficiencies” means, doesn’t it?) can cost the province more money? Furthermore, why are we spending 7 million tax dollars on subsidizing supposedly profitable private enterprises? The right-wingers on this site get all frothy whenever there’s mention of tax dollars being used for something like the PAC, so please speak up on this matter as well.
The article is a little light on details, but I assume the $7M is an internal government budget geared towards finding efficiencies and reducing red tape.
I don’t see where the government is handing this money out to mining companies, but maybe someone can correct me.
The 7 million would sure help out the BC Children’s Hospital…12 for Bollywood….15 for ads on tv….no wonder BC has a deficit.
Anyone know what three new mines started production in 2011??? Coal mines??? And what are the names of the three that have been permitted????
Just askin.
Im pretty sure that 682 million is wrong for 2012, i think it was more like 400 something, but correct me if im wrong…
New Afton in Kamloops, Copper Mountain outside of Princeton, and Bonaza Ledge? The three new… Mt Milligan, Red Chris and I dont know have started construction…
