Meisner to Receive Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal
Wednesday, January 30, 2013 @ 2:07 PM
Prince George, B.C.- 250News President, Ben Meisner will be receiving a Queen’s Diamond Jubilee medal.
Cariboo-Prince George MP, Dick Harris made the announcement today, saying Meisner is “one of those very special people who so richly deserve to be recognized for their many accomplishments in their communities and for their country. In Ben’s case, not the least among his accomplishments are his continuous efforts to ensure that things are done right, done honestly and in an open fashion, as well as his for tireless support and fight for ‘the little guy”.
Meisner has been in the broadcasting and news business for nearly 60 years. He may be best known for pressing those who sat on the opposite side of the microphone and at other times through penning editorials and other opinion pieces. Known as the “big voice” on the one hand, it hasn’t always made him popular among the power brokers,” explains Harris. But on the other hand, “it’s never been about popularity for Ben, it’s always been about trying to do the right thing.” Harris credits Meisner most of all for his quiet yet diligent work for the region behind the scenes and where he has many crowning achievements.
The public achievements over the years include his work to save the salmon in the Nechako River, fundraising to help develop Cottonwood Island Park, operating his jet boat to provide emergency assistance when needed. Few know that the idea for the Health Care Rally, which would spark the development of the Northern Medical Program, was created one Sunday afternoon in the living room of Meisner’s home, when he and two friends came together to discuss the state of health services in the region. Four days later, the Multiplex ( as it was known at the time) would be filled to capacity and the promise of a new northern medical program would be presented.
Meisner is an exemplary candidate for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Award says Harris, who adds, “Ben is “worthy to be called the region’s ombudsman, problem-solver, and the conscientious voice of the ordinary person.”
Meisner, says he is “both honoured and humbled” by the news of the medal. “ I am also very honoured that when need be, the people in the community have allowed me to work on their behalf.”
In his capacity as federal MP, Mr. Harris will have the honour to bestow the Award on Mr. Meisner at a future date this spring.

Congratulations Ben. You have spent so much of your time trying to bring honesty to politics in our area. You are the spokesperson and watchdog for the average citizen in the PG general area. I am sure Elaine is beside you, providing the support you will always need.
Please keep up the good work. We do appreciate it.
A huge congrats there, Mr. Meisner!! All of the above are true, accept the recognition with pride and enjoy the feeling of accomplishment. Acknowledgement to Elaine, as well. OK, just have to print it – I am sure that Green-Stolz are just as happy as the rest of us.

I wish to add my congratulions! Without Mr. Meisner our community wouldn’t have had a champion spokesman for the interests of people without connections!

Thank you Mr. Miesner. I will always remember you for telling us that we need to have a fire in our bellies during a meeting at the Inn Of The North. I think we were rallying about a dyke on the river road. Haveing a fire in our bellies is one to write in the and of my shorts though so I’ll never forget. Congradulations Ben. I miss your show on 250.

Well done Ben. You are a asset in our society. A pretty good fisherman too!
thanks for the years of thought initiation Ben. congrats
I like and respect Ben Meisner regardless if he is to receive a medal from Dick Harris or not. It would mean a lot more though if it was awarded from a non partisan committee of some sort. That said one could argue Ben Meisner is more deserving than most anyone else in our community of recognition from the Queen for his commitment to his community.
