City Hall Seeks Public Input on Budget

Sunday, February 3, 2013 @ 4:12 AM
Prince George, BC – City Hall is inviting the public to review and provide feedback on the provisional 2013 City of Prince George budget which is available on the City’s website: www.princegeorge.ca

The provisional budget is calling for a 3.5% tax increase, which would be in addition to increases experienced with new rates for sewer, up 19%, and water, up 16%.

Residents can address Council once during one of two fifteen minute sessions that will be scheduled from 6:00 p.m. – 6:15 p.m. on both February 6 and February 13. They can also respond to a short online survey regarding service levels and tax dollar distribution. The survey can also be accessed on the City’s website. Responses provided to the online survey will be collated and provided to Council in advance of the scheduled budget meetings.

Throughout 2013 budget deliberations, Council will also consider public input provided during the 2012 Core Services Review process. In July of 2012, residents were invited to respond to service levels profiles that included information about service levels, performance, and budget by participating in online surveys, attending a workshop and/or emailing comments. In October, a summary of opportunities for change regarding expense reduction, revenue diversification and operational efficiency were presented and public input was once again gathered through consultation workshops, emails, and an online survey.

Two fifteen minute sessions?!? WTF!!!

This is an insult to the taxpayers of this city.

If the council can’t or more likely won’t because they well know that the citizens of this city have some words for them.

If that’s all the time they can afford they shouldn’t even bother!

This is in no way shape or form a budget, it is just a spending plan…they just set the tax rate to fit what they have decided to spend.

I’m with you Billy . It will make them sleep better at night knowing they gave the taxpayer a chance to voice their opinion . What a joke !Let,s have some bogus meetings and ram it through anyhow . Gee , maybe they are using the pipe line move .

how the hell are they supposed to even answer a question in that time frame!

Just like in every corporation they have to have people’s input just to make the people happy. They are going to do what they are set on anyway. Plus it scares me that the city is even asking us about why they should do a out the budget that to me thinks they are incapable of being out city councils

Sorry guys spell check on I phones suck

You can aways drop a line to Mayor and Council withj your veiws.

Why would you need a spell check buzzinga?

Retired, you answered your own question.

Anyway, in terms of input, there’s an online form for those who can’t make the in person session.

I remember the City sent out a survey a year or two ago to random residents for feedback on budget direction/priorities. Whatever happened with that?

Well johnnybelt, only perfectionits need spell checkers. Did u ever see the spelling used by the y generation on there ipods.
Cheers

A chance to voice their opion and they still bitch

Two fifteen minute sesions. Wow, that’s like flipping a street person a dime and telling them to have a coffee on you.

More of an insult to us than anything else.

Looks to me that City Hall is blowing smoke….and Mayor Green will be holding the mirrors. Yes that’s right “smoke and mirrors”..:(

The library just had a donation for computers, Hmmm wonder what the city will do now with the money budgeted? Went on the city site and darned if the questions appear familiar. Just wish they would have a total amount when you put in the %s….

Retired: “Well johnnybelt, only perfectionits need spell checkers. Did u ever see the spelling used by the y generation on there ipods. “

Do your parents know you’re on the computer?

How sad that there are people who think you’re a ‘perfectionits’ if you can spell.

Two 15 minute time slots is an absolute joke and insult!!

Looks like council is only going through the motions, ticking off the TO DO boxes and not really interested in hearing from or pleasing the public because they have already decided on what they are going to spend the money on and how they are going to run things. Election time can’t come soon enough for me…things are getting worse, not better.

Sounds very much like the way they are trying to push the rezoning of the old Haldi Road school through to please some investors, AND IGNORING the neighborhood.

Only in the case of the upcoming OCP amendments to get the Haldi deal done, ALL PROPERTY OWNERS IN PRINCE GEORGE WILL BE AFFECTED by a change the city is proposing so that a couple of businessmen can profit…..VERY SAD!!

Has anyone else had a problem finding the online survey on the City of Prince George webpage? Maybe they don’t really want our input after all….surprised? I finally got onto the online opinion survey through the Prince George Citizen page.
