Roll Up The Sleeves Time For Horses and Bayonets

Prince George, B.C. – The age-old adage that nothing is free and if you want something you have to work hard to get it isn’t lost on a group of five young Prince George musicians.
And the work they’re putting into achieving their goal is going to directly benefit people who live in their community. Here’s what it’s all about. These guys (Bryce Lokken, Landon Hilde, Jake Olexyn, Devon Meyer and Alex Chin, pictured to right) are
in a band called Horses and Bayonets. They’re heading to Vancouver in March to cut an album and are conducting a crowdfunding campaign online in which they set up incentives for people to donate to the creation of the album.

Lokken, lead vocalist in the band, says “we decided to do it in a really positive way. A lot of bands will give away thank-yous and maybe some music. We’re certainly giving away music and t-shirts but we want to make sure we’re giving back to the community. So, for their donation people will earn things. Like we’ll do charitable work in their name or we’ll do chores for them in sexy outfits or we’ll get tattoos for them….just really “out there” stuff and community-based stuff to make sure we’re giving back to them and not taking handouts.”
This is day 8 of the band’s 45-day campaign to raise money for getting the album produced, and they’ve already raised more than a quarter of what is needed. The total cost is $5,000 but Lokken says “we’re actually only trying to raise $2,000 because we can cover the rest ourselves.”
Lokken says they’ve also committed to some personal sacrifices “just to make sure the community looks at us and goes hey these aren’t just some losers begging for money, they actually have something to offer.” He says the band is getting the word out through its website (indiegogo.com/habmusic), social media (facebook.com/habmusic), through friends and family and at local shows. Lokken says people can donate online, by credit card, through Pay pal or through their bank, in some instances. He says “it’s all secure transactions obviously and if people want they can always find one of us online or at work (he’s the marketing representative at the local Harley shop) and donate cash and we’ll add that to the total and we’ll make sure they get the incentives or the prizes that they have donated for.”
Horses and Bayonets are five guys between the ages of 17 and 26 who have a combined 45 to 50 years of playing experience. They play pop rock to hard rock and are lining up appearances at festivals this summer, as well as a western Canada tour in May and June. Their album consisting of eight original tunes is being engineered by Chris Holmes in Vancouver. He has worked in the past with artists such as Katy Perry and Korn.
