PG’s Unemployment Rate Edges Up

Prince George, BC – The unemployment rate in Prince George edged up slightly last month to 4.5-percent, from 4.2-percent in December…

According to the Labour Force Survey released by Statistics Canada, the number people in the city’s active labour force dropped by about 1300 last month, when compared to the month before.

The UE rate for January 2012 was 8.1-percent, but the population base included about 300 more people and the active labour force at that time was approximately 53-thousand, compared to just under 51-thousand jobs last month.

The provincial unemployment rate saw a similar hike over the month before from 6.0-percent in December to 6.3-percent in the first month of 2013. Last month’s rate  is still below the mark set in January of 2012, when it was an even  7%.

The active labourforce dropped down by 2000. Does that mean people are leaving the workforce due to retirement or giving up?

Maybe that many jobs have been automated or outsourced out of existence.

This must be the NEW Liberal Party’s job creation program at work!!
