Bond Welcomes Federal Crime Victim Legislation

Sunday, February 10, 2013 @ 5:14 AM
Prince George, B.C. – Minister of Justice and Attorney General Shirley Bond is applauding the federal government’s introduction of legislation which focuses on the victims of crime committed by people found not criminally responsible due to a mental disorder.

The “Not Criminally Responsible Reform Act” has three main components:

-Putting public safety first
-Creating a high-risk designation
-Enhancing victims’ involvement

Bond says “We were pleased when we heard Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s significant announcement about new measures being taken to ensure that public safety is the paramount consideration in all hearings where someone has been found to be not criminally responsible.

We thank the federal government for its commitment to address the significant concerns of victims and families who have been clear that they want to be given ample notification when review board decisions are made, and that their needs are considered.”

The minister says that safeguarding families to minimize the re-victimization that occurs with mandatory annual review board hearings “has been a very important priority of mine and I’m proud to say that B.C. has been instrumental in calling for these changes. As the Prime Minister said, we need to ensure that not-criminally-responsible accused people who are too dangerous to be released cannot pose a further threat to their victims, or to our communities.”

The crime is She still has a seat…..

Wouldn’t it be wild if the citizens of BC could praise our provincial govt for doing something in an attempt to protect all citizens from all criminals.

Dragonmaster, I’d like to see legislation introduced to see us able to protect our own property up to almost lethal force. That would make many of us very happy.

zyblxteu you are out to lunch Sirley Bond i one of the hardest working MLA’s that we have.

She has destroyed every ministry she has touched. She may be hardest working..but doing what for whom ? She hasn’t done anything for BC

P Val, you eldom seem to have anything nice to say about any of our local MLA’s. That’s really sad. Shirley Bond is a very nice lady, a very hard working nice lady. I wonder if you have ever bothered to call her office or go there in person to tell her that in your opinion, she has destroyed every ministry she has touched. Shirley Bond, Pat Bell and John Rustad have put their names on a ballot and have been elected and re-elected by the people in their ridings. What have you done for BC, other than whine and complain? Did you even bother to go vote?

As far as doing anything for BC, I wonder if Adrian Dix, if elected, will have time to do anything for BC or will he spend his time fabricating back-dated memos to cover someone’s butt?

I’m not a big fan of some of the performance of our current government, but I’m at a loss as to how someone as lacking in ethics and credibility as Adrian Dix is, will be better for all of BC. I guess if you are in a Union, you may benefit under the NDP, but to heck with the rest of us, right??

Yes I have contacted her numerous times and her response is always a form letter. She never answers any questions. Her responses are just liberal garbage.

I vote every election..both local, provincial and federal.

You can’t talk about credibility if you are talking about the liberals they are as scandalous as the NDP. As for my job..sorry not in a union.. I don’t care who gets in office..I just want honesty. Is that so much to ask ?

Don’t you fret none there, Ms. Bond, all these grumblers and complainers, once they see what the NDP roll out, will still vote for yuh. Just keep work’in like yuh have been, no worries.

I think this is a good improvement. Not sure Bond can take credit for it though. PG is a dumping ground for inmates with mental issues, so this is good news for PG.

Here Hart Guy I fixed it for you.

I’m not a big fan of some of the performance of our current government, but I’m at a loss as to how someone as lacking in ethics and credibility as Christy Clark’s govt is, will be better for all of BC. I guess if you are not in a Union, you may benefit under the Liberals, but to heck with the rest of us, right??

The status quo is finished in BC.

I wonder how many are here on this site. Pretty easy to pick out.

Commenting about a lack of ethics and cred regarding Adrian Dix and claiming he is worse for his memo and no transit ticket than what has been going on with our Liberal govt over the years is absolutely laughable!

I just don’t understand these posts that appear to show the NDP favours unions. I recall being a member of the BCGEU and being on strike due to an NDP government’s decision to put us out there. A lot of governments in Canada screw up, the liberals at the federal end and NDP at the provincial level. Sorry, I gotta stick with the provincial liberals, at least they’ve allowed mining exploration, better than what the NDP have allowed in the past.

dragonmaster, sorry that I haven’t replied to your comment earlier today, but unfortunately I had to work today. Guess that’s what I get for not belonging to a union, eh??

As far as your comment, you suggest that my comment about a lack of ethics and credibility regarding Adrian Dix is absolutely laughable. That simple begs this question for you…

Let’s just imagine for a moment that you actually owned a business. I know, not very likely, but humour me for a minute and let’s assume that you did. Let’s also assume that you know who Adrian Dix is and you also know that he doesn’t seem to have a problem falsifying memos/documents or trying to evade transit fares. Knowing all of that, if he applied for a job at your business, would you hire him???

I sure as heck wouldn’t hire him, let alone want him to be my premier. I’m not happy with the Liberals but I sure as heck wouldn’t ever vote for the NDP. Is Adrian Dix the best that the NDP can come up with? Really???

PVal, it’s unfortunate that all you ever got from Shirley Bond was a form letter. I have had the opportunity to speak with her a number of times and was always able to discuss my concerns at length, both during what would be considered normal office hours as well as early morning and late evenings while waiting for flights at the local and Vancouver airports.

I found that my concerns were listened to and responded to in a professional, fair and reasonable manner. Shirley Bond has always struck me as someone who genuinely cares about her constituants and the province that she represents.

I have also had my problems with politicians not answering my questions. During the NDP leadership campaign, Adrian Dix made some statements that I felt needed clarification. I sent him a couple of emails asking for clarification. I also sent him the same question on his Facebook page. This was before he was named as leader of the NDP. So far and to date, he has not answered my questions. He hasn’t even bothered to acknowledge my questions in a form letter or by any other means. Kinda sorta makes me wonder why not!

dragonmaster, I’ve seen you post this link a few times and finally took the time to actually open it.

Are you trying to tell all of us that you are an internet shill and are part of a shadowy group that is trying to manipulate internet opinion and debate?

By the way, you didn’t answer my earlier question. Would you hire Dix and is he the best that the NDP has to offer?? I’m not and never will be an NDP supporter, but even I can see that Mike Farnworth and John Horgan have more on the ball than Dix. I could stomach either of them as Premier, but Dix?? Give your head a shake! Pleeeeeease! He’s a bad for the NDP as Christy Clark is for the Liberals!
